The beta's great fun. Had two hours or so on it this morning, and choose the freestyle to start with so I could get in a plane as soon as. Did a few of the challenges, then decided to mess around, spending most of my time like this.

Driving on the roads in a plane is great fun.

Had a quick go with this, thoughts below

Positives:
Going for the motorsport festival angle instead of edgelord F&F knockoff was a much better idea.
The map is massive as before, lots of area to drive around in.
The handling is a lot better than the first game.
The livery editor is a welcome addition which rips off forza wholesale but with some interesting touches of its own.

Negatives
Now you can hop into any event on the map at any time, making exploration feel somewhat pointless.
The lootbox gear upgrade still doesn't sit well with me, and the way your douchelord mechanic unironically says "hey, loot!" and "blue loot, great! We've only been getting green stuff up till now." makes me nervous that the game is going to be super-grindy; the fact you have to pay to apply liveries you've made doesn't help alleviate that impression.

I've enjoyed what i've played, but i'm definitely going to wait for E3 and see what Forza Horizon 4 looks like before making any decisions.

I think that's something I'll be doing as well. I love flying around the map, and while I haven't explored much yet, it is ripe for that - which is something I'm more interested in doing. At the same time though, Forza Horizon has always offered a lot to explore within its own maps, and the focus on just cars means the driving mechanics are more robust. The small amount I controlled the car for, it felt a bit too floaty - even compared to something like GTA.
I'll be diving back into this tomorrow, as I want to unlock the other disciplines and see what other races feel like. And explore some more.

Having spent another few hours on it [driving my Xbox to burning hot levels twice], I still think the vehicle physics are floaty, but with a bit of getting used to it becomes easier to manage. The events on offer are fun to play through, with the fame system being a good gate for progression. Exploring is also fun to do - just driving around and taking in the world is fun to do. Having earned enough money through the events, I bought a Mini Cooper and headed over to the Florida Keys [I think that's the name]. I then drove to the Niagra Falls and took in the sights, only using the extended minimap for navigation. I then went to a motocross track and drove said Mini on it.
I definitely think the full game will have a lot to do.

Posting again to say I am probably in love with the game right now. This photo mode is absolutely a great thing to have. I've spent the past hour having done some more events driving through the mountain range to the north to get some lovely shots of all three vehicles.

Made the image a link to take you to the full-sized version so you can get a better look, though my Xbox profile might be the best place to really get a good look at the individual images, along with a few others.

I've certainly had fun with the beta, exploring all over and getting a good feel for how everything is. I said the physics were floaty before where I was meaning tight, and playing more with both boat and car really highlight that fact. Even just a flick to the edge in one direction will have the car perform an almost 45-degree turn, so it's better to be gentle when controlling them. It is definitely just a case of getting used to them, and I'm pretty certain I'll be going for it along with the inevitable Forza Horizon 4.

I haven't played the weekend open beta but I've checked out a few videos and I really like the look of the game. It's super arcadey racing and that could be right up my street. Tempted.

Gave the Beta a go over the weekend and I'm still really on the fence for it.
The open world is absolutely huge like the original and it graphically look rather nice even if the crashes are freak'n awful.
There's a nice variety to the amount of vehicles, with driving, flying and boating are all very fun.
They've ditched the whole cheesy revenge story which is a shame, cause I rather liked that.
Still unsure if the game is going to have loot boxes or microtransactions.

Certainly not going to get it at launch but when it hit the sales, I'll definitely give it a go.

The fact you get coloured rarity upgrades from missions doesn't do anything to help dissuade opinion, but they've been pretty restrained in stuff like AssCreed recently, so there's hope.

I tried the closed beta and it was enjoyable enough, however then the Forza Horizon 4 reveal happened and this ceased to be a priority for me, partly for the reasons you describe.

Yeah, I love the look of Forza Horizon 4 but I don't own an Xbox and, with so few other big arcade racers around, The Crew 2 is looking pretty attractive!

The first game had its faults but it was - for me - still fun and Ivory Tower did an incredible job with post-launch development and support. I'm hoping that this title will get the same fine treatment.

You don't have a beefy gaming computer either, right?

Haven't played the beta as I know what I'm in for, but as much as I'm interested, I'm still waiting for reviews to see exactly what I'm getting into.

Yeah, I don't game on PC, Rula, so PS4 and Switch are my formats. I agree that it's probs best to await reviews although, as an online-focused game like the first title, I can see it developing over time. For instance, I believe that some of the multiplayer functionality is a part of the planned December update.

I'm intrigued by it and I like to try and support arcade racers - when they"re good :-).

Did everyone see this? Everyone needs to see this. Had me howling.

Now this one is a real enigma. The signage claims it’s a pharmacy and a grocery store, but look inside and you see what is clearly a high-end fashion boutique. I’m so confused. But maybe it's an art thing.

Yup. You were right.
How many more weird things are within the world? That's going to be a thing, isn't it..? Looking for them?

I like the huge scale of the game world and the fact that you can drive or fast-travel to wherever you want; it suits differing tastes.

I think I know the engine used to create the buildings. It's the same one used to create the final level in Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase. After all, where else would you get two cafe's called cafe right opposite each other, a flower shop called flower, and two completely unrelated shops using the same sign?
