A cool concept hobbled by a monotonous gear grind and dumb story which undermined the experience. It really was the division with cars. I expect a sequel to be more of the same.

The division is genuinely a good game though. The crew isn't.

This E3 walkthrough is great; it demonstrates the huge scope and scale of the game.

The Division is a good game that was crippled by the developers listening to a tiny minority of people who decided it would be great if the game was so punishingly hard that 90% of the player base just said "strawberry float this!" and unless you had god tier equipment you were thoroughly screwed.

I don't mind hard games but games where even trash mobs are bullet sponges who just take ages to dispatch unless you have god tier (at which point the game becomes piss easy because that god tier gear is so overpowered) gear is just no fun.
The Division could have been amazing if they had listened to the majority of its fans and just made it hard and not soul crushingly hard and with a loot grind on top that was also soul crushingly stingy as well just to put a nice cherry on top.

The abilities are great. I love the turret and med boxes you can throw and the personal shield could have made for a great tank build if it ever worked. There's a few buffing skills as well for people who want to maybe stay back and snipe while helping the tanks and there's full on attacking abilities so it's all good.
They just made the rather gooseberry fool decision to make the equipment stats massively more important than anything else to the point where someone with good gear can stand in front of someone without (who simply has less because they don't have time to play for 4 hours a day) and let them just shoot them in the head all day long without effect even though the person shooting is higher level.
Equipment should make a small difference and enough that builds do indeed matter but making people do certain content to get items (items were locked in certain levels and to make a build normally meant doing the hardest content which you pretty much needed the equipment you're going after to be able to finish in less that 4 hours so there's another shitty design decision) is just madness.

I'm sorry I bang on about this game but it's just that it makes me so angry that a game that could so easily have been amazing became a huge shower of gooseberry fool simply because they listened to the "get good" crowd.
The setting is good as are the enemy types and and variety while the skills are fun and the gunplay was solid.

It could have been amazing  .

Yeah, I really wanted to get into The Division as I loved the setting and the styling but, as a single-player game, I found it to be far too difficult. I played it a couple of times with a few GRcadians and it was great fun; the baddies could be defeated when there is a group of you.

Anyway... uhm... this Crew 2 game seems good, huh?

;) .

looks like a bit of a jack of all trades. It's hard to judge from the video but the driving looks awful.

...and boat and plane races :dread: :dread: :dread:

In a sharp u-turn i'm totally down for this; more Forza Horizon and less Fast and Furious.

Ubi have changed the release date from March to “the first half of our next financial year” (i.e. some time between April and September) so that additional development time can be allocated to the game.

... . I suspect that the actions described are being undertaken by the big publishers on most of their upcoming games!

Trelliz wrote:I can't find The Crew 2 thread but this video about the "new" upgrade system has put me right off (skip to 8 minutes because of course a youtuber takes forever to get to the point):

So its more of the same but worse; car parts have rarity, perks and will probably be available in lootboxes because ubisoft. I don't want to play "Destiny: The Car Game" however impressive the open world tech is. I get that it's all about dat profit long-tail, but what's wrong with winning money to buy the parts you want? It just diminishes what you're actually doing because you're just thinking about the results rather than the process. This is making Onrush look a lot more appealing simply by the virtue of trying something different at least. Also at the end apparently you have to level up to be able to tune stuff like ride height, the diff, suspension etc.

Trelliz, yeah, I'm not sure I like the idea of "rare" parts / perks; it sounds a bit loot-boxy. In years gone by I would have pre-ordered this but I'm definitely holding off until a while post-launch to see how things pan out.

The open beta's meant to be soon, right? Who wants a bet it starts directly (or at least a day) after their conference?
It looks good from what I've seen. I just hope that upgrade system isn't as bad as stated above.

I got a beta invite yesterday as apparently i applied for it ages ago, and it runs from May 31st to June 4th. Despite my gripes about car loot i'll certainly give it a go to have an informed opinion rather than just ranting.

I'm keen to hear what you think after you've had the chance to play, Trelliz!

Count me in as one with a beta invite. I want to be live as soon as it is, but I know that probably won't happen.

So The Crew 2 has a full-on Forza-style livery editor:

If you're going to copy anyone you may as well copy the best, and it looks way more intuitive than the gt sport editor, even if you can't import your own layer groups. I am now much more interested as i love doing livery designs, especially if I can do boats and planes. Still going to wait and see what Forza Horizon 4 will be but this definitely has my attention.

That looks great! It's the kind of thing that really appeals to me... I could spend ages designing stuff in that!

I have gone from not planning to get this game to being keen to see more of it (as long as that previous "loot box"-type stuff isn't as intrusive as it maybe appeared to be).

I was always fond of the original one, it was a rough game but with the Wild Run update they improved the game a lot.
