This has been excellent. I would not be opposed to a full series hosted by Merchant.

Imagine, Channel 4 could've spent £75k on a Crystal Maze reboot instead...

If Channel 4 bought Bake Off for £75k that'd be some seriously good business ;)

Fantastic show, Merchant was brilliant.

Merchant to Sara Cox, you received an honorary degree at Bolton University, amazing, that Bolton even has a University. Did you see much of the 90's as according to the media you were hammered for most of it!

Now Sara, normally a knock on the door for a former Radio 1 DJ is a bad thing...

Bring back Crystal Maze, and then Gamesmaster! strawberry float Brexit, that's how you make Britain great again.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. Really hoping that it's serving as a bit of a pilot for a new series. Wasn't expecting much out of Stephen Merchant as host but he was outstanding - props to him for shaving his head and everything, he went the whole hog.

Rio Ferdinand really isn't a smart man though, is he? Watching him trying to follow instructions on the cog one was pretty funny.

Was well impressed, Merchant surprised me and did an awesome job. Of all the things being brought back and rebooted this so needs to be. I guess the barrier was the cost of the set and things so hopefully this will act as a pilot and show it is worth building a "proper" set.

Totally agree, I really enjoyed it. All my 90s teenage anger at contestants' collective stupidity came flooding back, it was brilliant

Also, concur with all the love for Merchant. The fact it was a 'Stand Up For...' seemed to give him licence to be particularly sharp-edged. It was great. Always liked him anyway, I just wonder if he might be a bit expensive as a full-time host were they to bring this back?

3.1m viewers. Absolutely smashed it. Channel 4 tends to get between 5-7% audience share and this got 14%.

Not bad at all! Now to ride the wave of success announce a "proper" series. One where they have a set that allows the phrase "raise the bridge" to be said.

This was fantastic.

Rio is an awful human being though, he just couldn't remember anyone's name.

Maybe he was a bit distracted by the fact that his wife died of cancer last year, what with it being a cancer charity event.
