BRB guys, just off to go watch a 4 hour movie rather than a 2 hour movie cos it's better value for money.

If there's a reason why games aren't taken seriously as art. It's people like you two.

Can you imagine a movie goer going "Oh well I want to go see Inception, but it's kind of short, so I guess I'll go see this 4 hour Hugh Grant rom com cos it's longer."

The reason games aren't taken seriously as art is because they're still in an infantile stage and a vast majority of the population don't understand them yet.

Games are a different art form to film and as such they can't be judged on identical merits.

And I never said there was anything wrong with the game's length, if you actually read what I wrote you would notice I said it was "the right length". But because of the increased monetary consideration when it comes to games, coupled with the fact that most games are intended to played repeatedly for many many hours, the total enjoyment I got out out this doesn't align itself with a full price point.

 why do you assume the length of a game is directly opposed to the quality of a game? Surely they can co-exist and you know...you can have a lengthy game that's really high quality. Maybe that's what Falsey would like instead? I sure know that no one in their right mind would be opposed to that idea.

I was actually amazed at how short it was. I remember the original Darkness being a fairly lengthy game. This allowed for time to familiarise yourself with the characters which in turn made the deaths of some incredibly affecting.

I enjoyed the sequel but it definitely felt rushed. The exposition scenes were great, but if you take out the time they added to the game there's only actually 2.5-3 hours of gunplay, which in this day and age is pathetically short. This also doesn't take into account that these sections are artificially lengthened by massively ramping up the difficulty towards the end.

I am enjoying Fade's current hot streak of being wrong in just about every argument, often by making a spectacular mess of his argument.

I just started playing this today and so far I'm really not very impressed.

I honestly can't believe how linear it is so far. Fair enough, The Darkness wasn't really that open, but you could usually approach the levels in at least two ways. It seems there's absolutely no stealth in this game at all, then?

I'm astounded that they seem to have actually taken out the ability to use one of those Darkness things and like slither around all stealthily, instead forcing you to just play a pretty dull shooter with an awkward slashing/throwing mechanic. Really?

Seems there's less control over the powers in general, this time. Opening a black hole where you wanted to rather than them popping up at random is obviously much better.

Still, it's early days yet and this has about a week to impress me before Dishonored, I suppose.

Also, I didn't even think Mike Patton was in this one. Doesn't sound as good, but again, hasn't actually said much yet.

I never had a problem doing anything I needed to. In fact, I was juggling powers all the time. Opening a black hole while some poor sod is stuck there impaled on a tentacle and you're shooting his mates. :datass:

My main gripe at the moment is that the combat is actually quite clunky. I don't want to shoot people. I want to use Darkness powers, and right now all I can do is throw things, smack them in the face or do the same finishing moves again and again. All except the first involve running right up to their faces and the first is slightly more novel than just shooting them in the face. I have no interest in upgrading any powers which make my guns better, but all the ones I've tried to make the tentacles better have sucked so far, too.

I'll stick with it. I really like short games, and I find too many outstay their welcome (even Spec Ops, which was only about 6h long had some sections which could have been taken out and added nothing to the game).

It looks nice and I really like the mobster/supernatural thing, although I wish they did explore the supernatural side a bit more.

Have you played the Vendetta things? Apparently there's four totally different characters which sounds quite interesting. One's got a sword.

So for £4 what's the thoughts on this?

I loved the story/setting of the first. Was really atmospheric little package...

Yeah, I paid £30+ for mine and didn't regret it. I think I prefer the original more, but still loved the sequel. No harm in trying it out, especially if you can get it for only four pounds.

Deffo preferred the original. The scenes with Jenny in The Darkness are still the best relationship scenes I've seen in the medium and her death scene is still genuinely uncomfortable to watch. The second game had some cracking moments (mostly involving Jenny too) but its 5 hour run-time and inferior story let it down somewhat.

Yeah the bit in her apartment in the first game was just genius.
It's a shame no top game publishers picked up on it.
