Really looking forward to a second Darkness game, the first was a huge surprise and I really enjoyed Dark Sector (even with its numerous flaws) so there is definitely a spark of hope here.

Why? Out of curiousity.

I thought it had one of the most engaging stories Ive ever played (easily one of, if not the best of this gen), the gameplay was great too.

"You were playing it wrong."

But seriously, it was only when you really started messing about with the powers that it got properly good. I'm talking running around with a guy impaled on your darkness thingies, shooting like a maniac, while a blackhole makes everyone in the level need a nappy change.

I didn't like the gameplay as much as I thought I would, unfortunately. Thought that Starbreeze were behind the curve (a feeling confirmed by the Riddick remake).

I thought they were ahead of the curve  You could do so much at once, and always different outcomes. You could just faff about or properly power play. Depending how you managed your arm power thingies you got a totally different play through.

I think in The Darkness there’s a lot of exploration and walking through New York City, and we felt like, ‘Well that’s cool,’ but we decided to take our game in a different direction and focus more on the action and the story.”

Oh :(

I thought the first game was riddled with flaws but had an overall style that I loved. If they were to make a really polished game with the concept then it'd be brilliant.

What's that? It's not made by Starbreeze, the same guys who made the very atmospheric and cinematic Escape From Butcher Bay, Dark Athena and The Darkness? Those guys aren't making it?

Darkness 2 is going to suck balls and probably be very mediocre. It's going to carry itself entirely on the previous game and strawberry float up what makes Starbreeze games good, like the prequel.

They should have strawberry floating ported the first one to PC, it was obviously a PC game that wasn't ported well to the controller.

Got a funny feeling you might be right here. There better be some open levels to roam around. The last thing we need is more linear shooters.

I loved the first one a lot, but I'm not sure how much of that was down to it costing me a fiver and going in with low expectations of it. I can see this getting well and truly buried during the holidays this year.

Still: do want.

Why is everything in that image outlined in shitty black lines?

Now that you've said that it looks a bit Borderlandsish.

Oh yeah. Now that I've looked properly, the visuals really do look pretty awful.

I've had a very brief conversation with one of the environment artists for this. He says the intro sequence will blow the first one out of the water.

Considering how good the intro to the original was, I wanna see what they actually do with it.

I think I paid like £5 for the first game and I enjoyed it mostly. The free-roaming structure was a definite positive so the news that they're dropping that for the sequel is bizarre.
