He makes a lot of good points. Original content was not shown on stage. Look at Journey or Limbo though, they look like great examples of pushing the industry forward. Shame all the good, original or brave games(bar LittleBigPlanet2) are small download titles.

Really? Microsoft didn't show anything interesting at all really, I felt Move came across much better than Kinect - at least Move actually has original games as opposed to me-too shovelware.

I struggle to accept that anyone other than the most ardent fanboys could put MS ahead of Sony. Are you sure Sony's didn't seem poor because you'd just come from Nintendo's? It was a heck of a tough act to follow.

They only got to demo everything and see everything in person, what would they know?

You don't demo the games at the conferences though (except Nintendo's).

The press got to play Kinect and all of the titles there. I assume the same was done from Sony.

Gotta agree with you here Shadow, Sony showed more games, had more content and Move wasn't shown to us as a Wii too event. It was light years behind Nintendo's and EA for me.

I agree, after watching the 2 conferences I thought Sony was disappointing, but still much better than MS. I genuinely think a few hundred free 360s might have something to do with the stance Rudderless is taking.... :?

Microsoft bribed the entire international gaming press to report that they had the second best conference at E3.

Money well spent.

They spent a billion dollars on a public beta test before.

That's just plain bad, whoever you are.

Nothing for you or nothing for the industry?

I'm a little surprised that they managed to get to every single gaming journo, but consider me impressed.

Hmmm...you haven't got much imagination then and/or you are, like a lot of people on this forum, very short-sighted i.e. if it does have any immediate impact it must be wrong.

Both Kinect and Move will mature in to great experiences over time and 3D will become a standard. For that reason the article in the OP is pretty much the hit-buster they wanted and all the major TV manufacturers are producing/developing 3DTV sets.

Not the future...my arse.

Considering who we're talking about that's not fair mate to be honest.

I'd be willing to bet he's judging what he's seen ad experienced and it has nothing to do with sweeteners.

The 35 minutes I'm talking about was the stand up, followed by the 'hip' PSP advert that didn't really show anything.

I'd take that back before he reads it, that's a pretty bad thing to say about someone really.

Well, Sorcery was arguably the highlight of Sony's conference, but while perhaps a little too long was spent on Kinect, Microsoft's showing was slick and better-paced. Sony's seemed to drag on forever. And the Kevin Butler stuff, while sporadically amusing, was a self-indulgence too far - it would have meant nothing to those unaware of him, and E3 is a worldwide stage. Loads of nonplussed Japanese attendees, for example.

Also, the PSP stuff was embarrassing - like they saw the 3DS and realised they couldn't compete so didn't even try. Announcing a marketing campaign because no-one's buying games for your handheld? Desperation stakes, really.

It says something about Sony's showing that the announcement of a release date of a game it's trailed for years was one of the highlights. Some might not like Kinect but a lot of what they showed for it really isn't shovelware. Casual-focused? Of course. A bit too 'me too'? Sure. But the tech's interesting, the voice stuff's pretty cool, and it's more than just the more precise version of the Wii remote that Move is.

I struggle to accept that anyone other than the most ardent fanboys could put MS ahead of Sony. Are you sure Sony's didn't seem poor because you'd just come from Nintendo's? It was a heck of a tough act to follow.[/quote]

Dude. Seriously?

If I was bothered by that kind of thing, wouldn't I be praising MS to the rafters and saying they won rather than saying they were second place behind a very impressive Nintendo showing? I also mentioned several misgivings about Kinect even given that, as a dad with a four-year-old who's just getting into games, I really rate it as an entry point. I think my wife will like it to. The fact that I'm able to appreciate content that's not exclusively focused on the hardcore means I'm taking the MS dollar, does it? Please.

To be totally honest, none of the three blew me away. Nintendo announced some excellent titles, but there was little to nothing worthwhile on Wii from third-parties. Behind the scenes, though, 3DS is impressive just about everyone.
