Need to start looking for a position outside my old place. I've already applied there twice and not been successful :fp:.

Anyone got recommendations for general public sector work that can be found in a big city, e.g. regulatory, educational etc?

Why limit yourself to the public sector?

Private scares me :shifty:.

All of my experience is in what is technically public sector but is self-funded. With the exception of my current place (a university) which receives public funding alongside student fees.

What kind of thing do you do at the moment? Sounds like quite a broad scope there.

I am basically a team manager. Currently in an academic services role, previous experience is in legal regulation, including a contact centre.

I have very little non-management experience. I'm one of those twerps who got promoted out of his depth 7 months into his working life :slol:.

Are you any good at tying knots and folding paper? You can always work from there.

My phone on my desk has been frozen for a little while now, which I like because I dont get any calls on it anymore.

I know its been frozen, because it has the time and date it was last alive locked on the display. 09/02/17 10:01.

Its really a pleasant way to improve your working life. Heartily recommended.

Any tips on how to make the phone freeze?

I'd shove it in the freezer but all the fuses in our work kitchen just exploded and so that option is not available to me. :x

Its a VOIP phone and the ethernet cable I used for it has no retainer tab which makes it wobbly. I think one time when I plugged my laptop in I knocked it, just so, and it locked up in this position.

I of course plug my laptop in with an inordinate degree of care since this accident, but sadly have yet to find the time to troubleshoot the issue with my phone.

Ahh so you are saying that I should just go outside and cut the phone lines?

Im not saying anything, but if I were to suggest anything I would suggest a localised termination rather than a regional one. Regional brings heat and gets fixed. Local - who would ever know?

Something's always breaking/exploding/flooding at Moggy's "office"
I think he might be in some "Saw"-like trap house and just hasn't noticed.

You’re not wrong.

We work in the most dilapidated office I have ever known. We have had several floods, the toilets are always breaking, the kitchen fuses are constantly blowing and even the ceiling lights barely work. I overheard a manager talking the other day saying that the lights need to be replaced as a member of staff is threatening not to come in anymore as the lack of light is causing her migraines. Apparently this staff member and her manager have been waiting for 6 months for somebody to replace the strip lighting, but it can’t be done as “they want to do it all at the same time”.
