First day back in the office and I'm bored to tears already. Good grief.

Job interview didn't last long this morning. The job itself didn't sound anything like the advert and was more of an admin role than an accounts role. I would've also been the only person in the office most of the time which, although potentially a bit of a skive, would've probably been too depressing and lonely. The interviewer and I mutually agreed to cut the interview short as it was obviously not what I wanted.

Sounds like you did the right thing.

Those ads that big up a role piss me off. You'll just end up netting someone who feels underpaid and unfulfilled and generally waste people's time. It's the whole thing about jamming in desirables with unrealistic expectations. I doubt they expected a qualified accountant to respond, but the way they wrote the ad sounds like it wasn't your fault you were mislead. That gooseberry fool shouldn't be allowed. It's also a problem for people with various disabilities as well as abilities, for example a job shelf stacking or working with computers or drawing or whatever shouldn't require "excellent spoken presentation skills". Competent or good maybe, or ability to communicate clearly or work well in a team, but not the top gooseberry fool. It's just unrealistic. Completely strawberry floats over anyone with talent but communication challenges, for example they are deaf or suffer from anxiety. If not that then you're seriously overworked and no-one will be able to last long or be particularly good at anything focused because it's just too much piled onto the job spec.

There really should be rules around it, like you aren't allowed to lie on your CV so why should a company being able to lie in their job ad.

Imagine having to tell the truth on your CV. :dread:

Did they give you any idea as to why they thought this?

When he said it the second time, I asked him. He spouted off some drivel about communities not being as close knit, he doesn't know his neighbours, it never used to be like this. I tried to point that it wasn't really anything to do with the troubles, but he was having none of it.

I don't really think he was the full shilling.

Been there. Designers should not be allowed access to excel, keep it for the plebs. Actually, definitely managing directors should be banned from handing over designs in any Microsoft product.

Managed to get in for NHS training today instead of having to wait two months for it. Still nightshift so I'll be working 48hrs straight, but totally worth it to get mad paid.

People like that are just baffling. My favourite was when doing the monitoring questions in my old place:
"Would you say you were British, Irish, or any other white background?"
"I'm English."
"Okay, well we only have British on the list so is that okay?"
"No, I'm English!"
"I know you're English but we don't have an English option, we only have a British one."
"That's racist! I bet everyone else has their own. What would you put if I was Jamaican, eh?! What would you put?!"
"I'd put down Caribbean, sir."
"...this country's gone downhill..."

We have to ask for nationality as well. The amount of people who have said they are a Protestant/Catholic in answer to it is staggering.

Now I might be jumping the gun here but I think I really enjoy my new position . My team is full of young, pleasant, enthusiastic people instead of bitter old stubborn twats, my manager is... well I'm still not sure but she at least seems convincingly competent, and I stayed over today not because I needed to but because I was happy to .

Please don't let this end!

A wise man once said that existence is like a dancer forever moving to an eternal song, and for this dancer, as it is for all dancers, balance is the key.

They all think the new guy is a bellend ;)

My team leader went on maternity leave at the end of December and a temporary team leader has been placed in charge until she gets back. He’s an ok bloke but not really somebody I would have ever thought of putting in charge of other people.

He had all of the Christmas period off work and also booked Tuesday off as holiday (fair enough). But he has since called in sick every day this week. His sickness? He had a tooth out on Tuesday and “it is still hurting”.

:slol:

I had a tooth (back top left molar) and was back at work next day (had it out on a Sunday)

Tell I say he's a dirty wussy liar.
