Who the hell actually uses the term "key messaging" to staff unless they're in a brandng meeting?

Did they actually copy and paste the minutes from their £1k meeting into an email and send it?

There's branding and then there's corporate communications, they're not the same strawberry floating thing :fp:

People don't want to be a brand, that's for customers. They just want to do their jobs.

That might be the funniest thing Moggy has posted here. I was cringing so hard from reading that.

We get emails from the high up boss in our place that tells us what he has been up to in his personal life. Last week he went to a duck pond.

They were worried about morale a few weeks ago and installed “pulse-o-meters” on every floor of every office. They sold it as being like the buttons you get in some shops/fast food restaurants where you press the green smiley button if you are happy and the red frowny button if you are unhappy.

It turned out they were just red and green coloured tally clickers put on the door so you could click them on your way home.

My floor has had terrible results, consistently everyone is having bad days rather than good. Shitting themselves, they decided to take firm action and moved the “pulse-o-meters” away from the door as they were worried that clients might see it.

The “pulse-o-meter” results are still bad. Shocking.

Last week we all got called into a meeting room to discuss what the problems were. The toilets (the ladies toilets have been out of action for months) were mentioned, pay increases/bonuses, the lack of communication, the terrible IT systems, the lack of staff (they have been letting people go without replacing them), the high workloads, the lack of progression etc etc. Our team leaders wrote it all down and emailed it off to the management.

Upper management replied with “Wow, is there anything they do like about this place?”. There was nothing about explaining the reasons for the issues or any ideas of how to solve them.

The “pulse-o-meter” results are still bad. It’s an absolute mystery.

Teresa is in our office today and will be holding an office wide town hall on the 2nd floor at 2.30pm for everyone. Following this, there will be a drinks reception in the Showcase on the 2nd floor to hear more why this matters and your role in bringing this to life.

A town hall you say? With Theresa? On the second floor? Now I am motivated!

The town hall was great and explained everything. Apparently we want to be the best so are incorporating our values into our business. We are at the start of a journey. I think I fell asleep while stood up after that.

I had a bottle of beer and a pretzel after though so it's all good.

I just think of Parks & Recreation when people say that. And I've never heard anyone actually use that phrase with referring to a literal big ass town hall like we have.

Moggy really does live in some kind of TV version of work.

It really does make me feel like some workplaces are the same as going to school. It's kind of embarrassing. Do you have assemblies, talent shows and field trips too :dread:.

Which house are you in? (Griffindor?) What about debate clubs, when was the last time you debated the pros and cons of giant genetically modified tomatoes

(that part actually happened)

Think I'll be handing my notice in this Friday instead. Just gonna prepare it now then I'll get my CV updated this weekend to start job hunting.

Basically it's been a really good week for convincing me I'm doing the right thing. In a nutshell, this afternoon I did something I was instructed to by the director and now I have emails from the CEO demanding explanations for my actions, etc. He always talks to me like I'm gooseberry fool anyway so it's just kind of amusing now. Family run business so I guess when anything goes wrong they blame anyone but themselves.

By the sounds of it though they must think debt collecting really means "bounty hunter" at the very least. But "private investigator who knows all the law in the world" as standard. I genuinely think that the business is failing, there seem to be warning signs all over. And it feels like the chief exec is just out of touch with reality and doesn't know how to treat people.

That's why I dislike following orders and coming up with stuff instead. Not because they are often wrong, but not even people agree on whether they are right.

Management, everyone.

(I'm aware that ironically this makes me potentially a good candidate for management but hey ho.)

Feeling so nervous about today but my wife keeps assuring me I'm doing the right thing. I know it's the right thing to do anyway, just scary that it's D-Day.
