KPI has now snuck it's way into work meetings for the first time in 15 odd years. Looking like it's time to leave.

It's not targets per se, it's more the bullshit baggage that accompanies people using certain acronyms.

Sure, it might not be that you have to earn the company x amount - but a KPI is still a target that some want's met.

Done right, KPIs are exactly what they say they are and useful, particularly over time.

I tend to use "metrics" so I don't sound like I'm just spouting bullshit business terms, most my customers are normal though.

I know. A lot of acronyms have perfectly suitable words with less syllables.

It is bloody annoying when acronyms keep being introduced, particularly when you keep seeing them and need to pretend you know what they are until such time as you find the meaning. KNA was the latest one from recent times. "Key New Account", just in case anyone stumbled across it.

Key Performance Indicator?

Like anything else in the corporatesphere (I think I just made that up!), it's designed only to benefit the company and not the employee. When it comes down to redundancies or promotions or even budget allocations, they'll be using KPI crap to justify it, even though it is an almost wholly subjective exercise. They can highlight any of the key factors in order to meet their hidden agenda. It takes away good management skills and gives poor managers an easy way to make hard decisions, i.e hiding behind a number.

Under our old corporate plan, the KPIs and objectives made sense and I could actually see how I might contribute to them or how the organisation would go about meeting them. It'd be things like increase paperless billing, do more recycling, meet targets for getting products out on time, maintain our position in global forecasting skill ect. The latest corporate plan is a gooseberry fool show of utter bollocks which I can't follow or don't understand. We've also gone from about 18 objectives that fell into about 10(?) KPIs to a good 50 objectives under who knows how many KPIs. :simper:

Of course it benefits the company, it is at company level, not employee level. It isn't there to justify bad things, but to measure performance of certain business related things. Any company that is using them just to justify easy options probably isn't looking to grow and may have a limited lifespan.

Just done my weekend. Shouldn't really grumble. After years in retail working every weekend, having to do only one every ten weeks isn't so bad. The only bummer is it's the start of a seven day stretch where Monday-Friday is an 11am-7pm shift on A&E. Bloody knackered come the Friday.

One of my ideas for hell is where you work 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. What you are describing sounds like an appetizer for that.

If I could work 8am-6pm Mon-Thu and have Friday off, I'd jump at the chance. The 5:2 ratio of work days:weekends is skewed in the wrong way. 4:3 would be much better. Would only work for typical 9-5 jobs I guess, would be so nice.

I would do this too.

The problem is come sunday you finally start relaxing and then you're back in the next day :/

work just fixed my working time schedule. :x

Technically I was contracted Tuesday - Saturday ( No idea why since I have always worked Monday - Friday )

Which now means I don't get that sweet extra day per week of annual leave. (TBH I only just realised this was happening)
