Applied for 3 jobs in the last 24 hours. Should be getting an interview next week for at least one of them. One of the others was for an accounting position at the local police headquarters. The application took my a good 2 hours to complete so hopefully I hear something.

Is there any way I can contact HMRC or something about getting a P45 from my old employer? They're being really strawberry floating awkward about it and I know it's complete spite and nastiness but I've just been searching the .gov website and it's about as helpful as a chocolate barbecue.

Funnily enough I've had to submit a shitload of documents for my new job and one of the requests was for those kind of documents. They sent this:

Please provide either one of the following documents that clearly shows end date of your employment at XXXXXXXXXXX and start date at XXXXXXXXX:

- First and last payslips
- P45’s (This document will only show the end date of employment)
- Employment leaving letter
- Employment leaving certificate
- Contract letter or offer letter and last pay slip.
- Copy of the employment reference obtained by your current employer
- Employee workbook
If you are unable to provide any of the above documents then we are also able to accept the following:
- Tax Documentation e.g. HMRC letters. To obtain this document, please call 0300 200 3300 and ensure you have your National Insurance Number to hand.
Please note, this type of document should be used as a last resort due to the prolonged time required to obtain the document and its negative impact on the time required to complete your background screening.

Now I ended up having the documents and didnt need to call that number, so it may just be for tax documents, but it may be worth having a ring of that number to see if someone on the other end could point you in the right direction.

Haha you ahve to go via the proxy there is no way round. The policy says "not excessive" so should be able to get a bit in like. And in a few weeks I should be able to start working at home a few times a week so then I can have my surface for browsing and work laptop for work.

Shouldn't be doing THAT in a big open office either.

I worked on that helpline for a while, dealing with exactly this kind of request.

It depends on if the employer has submitted the P45 details to HMRC. If they have it shouldn't be an issue and they can just issue a coding notice to your new employer. That usually has to happen after you've received your first wage with them though, as HMRC won't hold the details of that new employment for you until they've paid you (The information gets sent through when they run their payroll). So you may pay a bit more tax than normal that first time, but once they have the details they can send out a new tax code for you, which will take that into account and put you in the right position.

If the old employer hasn't submitted any P45 details to us, you will potentially need to keep badgering them until they do. Either way I would recommend calling the number Ad7 posted.

Not sure. It's been almost two years since I last worked the Personal Tax line so my knowledge on it isn't as detailed as it once was. Best bet is to give them a call and see what they suggest.
