Yeah they have have said 3 - 4 weeks to do all the checks and stuff.

Annoyingly a satisfactory ref from current employer is part of that so I am not sure where best to do notice.

I think I am going to have a chat with the bosses monday and explain the situation and say look I want to be upfront and they are currently doing checks which will include a reference, however i dont want to do notice until after I get my unconditional offer that way I dont risk no job etc. and also spin into that that it will mean an extra 4 / 5 weeks on top of my 6 weeks notice to get gooseberry fool handed over and trained and things making their life a hell of a lot easier. With the handy benefit that if anything goes wrong for whatever reason I dont have my notice in and so I can just say "yeah fell through so I'm staying put, lets work out our issues together and move forward"

Normally the client or the candidate can request not to ask for a reference from the current employer until after an offer is made, this was for anti-poaching and also to preserve bonuses. But they will need one eventually, sometimes they will waive that until after starting the job.

They'll also check your degree etc if you have one so it's worth getting your certificates as if the referee can't be contacted it will default to written evidence, you send that in and get cleared so try to find those to speed things up if they take ages (they often do, I even called elementary schools in Europe, I got a CompSci reference from professor in Turkey on the worst landline I've ever heard, they even check GCSEs if that's the highest qualification).

If the client has an SLA it will get done within a certain amount of time, last resort they just say, this is what we've got, do you want to certify the candidate etc.

Might be better to wait until you get an offer in writing. I would hope that any company would not ask for a reference until they had completed the checks, otherwise your could fail the checks for some reason leaving you in a difficult position.

There are no education checks and shiz as even an uneducation thicko like me can apply :D

They need the reference to get me a full offer but I can hand in my notice whenever even after all the referencing and gooseberry fool as I would rather wait for an unconditional offer assuming my current bosses are cool with that (I do alot and there is a lot to hand over so I doubt they will have an issue).

Right now I have a conditional on the condition I pass referencing and checks, they are going to do all the checks and gooseberry fool first then employment refs after that so I got time to get the bosses sweet and thankfully the new place is cool with me not handing notice until after all the checks and are happy to wait so it means I can make it easier and less risky for me and give the current place loads of time to get everything out of my head and onto docs and other people.

Thats what I have been battling them a bit with as they do it all at once which leaves me at risk, but they dont mind me not being in my notice period for it and doing notice after it all as long as they can get an employment ref like that they dont give a gooseberry fool.
They also dont employment refs whenever but I ahve gotten them to agree to do it after the other stuff so I know those results before "having" to tell the bosses, although I think they will appreciate openess and the extra hand over time.

Oh my god, writing documentation with a view to probably leaving a company or delivering on the "fruits of your labour" is the worst thing, good luck with that. It's something companies are meant to do to preserve IP and remain flexible and saleable but nobody wants to explain their job.

I decided today that if I don't have a new job by August, I'm just going to hand in my notice and become unemployed. My girlfriend is cool with it so there we go.

Why August? That's 9 months away. Is the 9 months gap significant?

Significant enough to reflect the seriousness of the decision and the planning required to not completely strawberry float my life up by making it.

It also happens to tie in nicely with my honeymoon :slol:.

Surely you've plenty of great experience now with which to get a role at a similar level?

I don't want one. This job has put me right off.

I certainly don't run the company. I should have said 'sub-departments'. Still, going by analysis barely a year old, I'm doing around £90k worth of work for a third of the price.

I'm going to start an application for another job at my old place this weekend. Time to get my desperate ex-boyfriend act out again :fp:.

I've found another job that I'm applying for at the same time. Feels good man. 8-)

I'm aiming for investigative/case working roles. I've had enough of feeling responsible for women* getting signed off with stress.

*I'm not being sexist; it has only ever been women (who are/were gooseberry fool at their jobs btw)

I went down the analyst route because there are some recently paid jobs out there without the responsibility of leading teams or managing people.

In a nutshell, I've had enough. Although in all honesty, I've probably had enough for the last 4 or so years. When I started my career I was a developer (although back in those days, a programmer) and over the years I moved into a management position, starting with a team of around 7 and through company acquisitions, have ended up with 2 teams and 20 direct reports. Aside from the responsibility of these reports, I also have financial responsibility for the teams (we are targeted to bring in $4 million annually and am constantly put under pressure to deliver this) and also have to deal with the day to day customer gooseberry fool with some of the customers being very high profile. Around 2013-2015 I had a very toxic relationship with my boss (a VP) but somehow I managed not to break down and interestingly at the end of last year he "left to pursue other interests" (he wasn't my boss for the last couple of years, he had moved onto other things). Up until around 2010 when I had a smaller team and was more hands on I used to enjoy my job and didn't really understand what all the fuss was about having a work/life balance a I pretty much just did normal working hours. Now I understand what this struggle is all about and feel tired most days and need my weekends just to recover. In some ways I feel a bit of a prisoner now because it is really difficult to get a similar role in another company as they all seem to want an element of hands-on skill and technologies that I am not familiar with. There is a lot more gooseberry fool I could add, but this has probably already reached tl;dr for most people.

So in summary, I want less responsibility and workload with the same or more money

Surprised myself by handing in my notice today :slol: what the strawberry float am I doing :dread:.

The Director called me in to her office and literally begged me to stay. We had a long conversation, the result being that she is going to come up with "a few options" in time for me to meet with her again later in the week. Apparently she will do "everything in her power" to make it worth my while to stay.

I'm pretty much definitely still leaving (unless I come to my senses) but I'm interested to see what she comes up with.

Man I had to absorb like 30% in logistics alone for a custom order, the stuff I do to win new customers. Just consider it a fee for a good review, word gets around etc.

Teaches me to actually pick up the phone too. It surprises how many people use the phone and then want to switch to WhatsApp or something, at least it gets my attention and truth is I'm actually very good at selling on the phone, I don't know how I do it considering most conversations strawberry float my mind especially stuff changing in the middle of conversation.

Maybe I've just hated phones on previous jobs because I have no idea what's going on and the office is full of chatter, making it impossible to think.

Okay, not leaving anymore. Panic over.

I'm being moved to the (literally) Royal department, where I will have much less work to do for a much more prestigious cause.

Lesson learnt — if you want something, just spit your dummy out, throw your toys out the pram and threaten to leave. Works every time :shifty:.

It does kind of work. I got good training out of it.

I've said before. You're a free agent, if you're truly good at your job you should have some kind of leverage, there are plenty of people that strawberry floating suck at their jobs and it's expensive to hire anyone, whether they're good or not (you don't really know). There are a lot more people that don't value themselves than those that just don't give a toss.
