Ugh.

Never before have I been made to feel like such a worthless piece gooseberry fool as I have been while applying for design jobs in these past few weeks.

Most, if not all jobs are now locked behind useless split recruiters, who despite me visiting them, explaining in great detail what i can do, they STILL don't put me forward for roles.

I'm getting little to no response from most people. Those that do seem to think i'm not worth an interview for roles that are £6-10k less than I used to get paid and that have far less responsibility and day to day duties.

I had a phone interview yesterday with a guy who, despite seeing my portfolio, decided he wasn't sure of my design skills and asked me to come up with a design for him "but spend no more than 2 hours on it". I did that, thought it looked pretty good but obviously not amazing given the time scale and he replied this morning saying it's not up to the standard his clients and his company expects so he wont be taking things further. Despite seeing my stuff and being interested. Doesn't even want to meet me and actually go through my stuff. strawberry floating strawberry float gooseberry fool banana splits argh.

Why did I do design? Why didn't I take up plumbing or something? strawberry float this.

I feel like I want to jump out of the window at the moment and just be strawberry floating done with it.

Do you have an idea of a salary you need as a minimum? Maybe you need take a different approach with these agencies, say you are looking for a better work/life balance than your old job, some less responsibility and as a result, fully expect to be paid less than your old job.

It is tough though and can be strawberry floating demoralising, but keep plugging away, something will turn up.

Yeah i've told them all my minimum and why. Ideal of X amount, minimum of Y if travelling a certain distance.

Finally got another interview offer yesterday for a job I really like the sound of but it's south of Manchester (and the pay's dire) so I've asked if I can do it by Skype/FaceTime to save me traveling down for a potentially pointless trip. Is this a big no-no?

I was in Budapest until recently and received a couple of job interview offers in Glasgow, asked if I could do the same and they just ignored me from thereon. Surely with modern broadband it's not that different from being in the room with them, not like I'm going to fly hundreds of miles for a first interview...

No you're perfectly within your rights to request a skype interview.

I wish my employer would hire a dedicated credit controller. Having to ring customers to chase money makes me so uncomfortable. It just makes me feel so incredibly anxious like I'm a terrified child again.

If it's "not that far" it might tell them you're not commuted to working for the company.

I have been offered a short term contract, possibly leading to full time work. Just waiting for the official offer document to come through.
