It sounds like you might be taking on too much and stressing yourself out. There is no point doing 30 more tickets than everyone else if it makes you want to die at the end of the week; you can settle for 5 more tickets, feel better, and still be regarded as a good (the best, by that measure!) performer.

Are you actually being assigned 30 more tickets than everyone else? If so that's different and a bit unfair.

It's because I work fast and efficiently. While other people are also on high tickets, I get my tickets down faster so I get given more so they don't get swamped.

The issue is I can't work any slower as that makes me even more stressed, I want to get all my work out the way so I'm on top of everything. The only reason why I'm stressed this week is I can't get on top of it all. To give you an example, it's like I'm pushing a boulder up a hill, right as I get near the top I slip and fall back again.

You need to get used to the idea of getting job satisfaction from doing each ticket well rather than completing them all. Choose your battles.

Yeah it shouldn't be about quantity, just do the tickets right and dont worry too much abotu doing all of them.

Just calm down and stop worrying about it all.

Smoke a phat blunt everyday before work. Guarantee those ticket numbers will fall and you'll be less stressed.

Till you lose your job but swings and roundabouts

The trouble is and this sounds really arrogant, I don't make mistakes in my tickets and I always do them well. I realise how arrogant that sounds. :slol:

Not really, Qikz. The feeling you're describing is pretty similar to how I've been feeling recently. However, I have made a few mistakes recently but it's because I've been pushed to a point where I don't care as much and/or can't give each task the attention it deserves.

I agree with the general sentiment. You're chasing a fallacy of zero tickets. If the company is in good health then you're going to get more tickets assigned because that's what people management is, you will assign work if there are idle workers. You are floating the company in a position of over performance where expectations will rise.

For your own sake, you need to relax more. You won't get appreciate because you are working faster than most people care to and for scant reward. If you move to a company that assigns you even more work under more pressure, you'll eventually crack. Try not to compare yourself to other people. I've spoken before about self exploitation and it sounds like you are doing that without realising its detrimental to your wellbeing.

Your normal progression would be into later support lines or management where you will no longer cope with a volume and get paid on responsibility and decision making instead. Maybe contracting to earn uncapped income would be more up your street in a few years? It doesn't sound like enough tickets are challenging enough to fill your day. Are you still on 1st line support? How often do you take breaks? It should be 10 minutes every hour or 5 minutes every 20 minutes or so of less intense tasks for computer work or you will naturally get stressed out or you will slowly get ill. If you are completing your allocated work then there's no reason at all why you shouldn't be able to take breaks. Everyone has different work patterns. A human being can't sustain 100% focus for more than 40 minutes. If you are doing that, you're probably making yourself ill.

You could get a tea timer set to 20 minute intervals if you need a logical method to break down work and structure break time. It sounds counter intuitive but it may make it easier for you to cope and fill out the day with NOT working like a machine so that you're not used as a firefighter to pick up everyone else. If you don't feel you're being paid enough and can justify that then it's a reasonable way of managing the situation.

Also when was the last time you took a holiday? Considering the value you bring to making the departments life easier maybe could negotiate more holidays in your contract or leave early on a Friday for example (and still get paid). It's an alternative for asking for more money.

I only ever allowed myself to get stressed like that at work once. I was just drowning in work, not from tickets but from people contacting me from all over wanting their work actioning first. This was at my last company after I'd progressed from 1st line through to 2nd line and by then was in the 3rd line server support team, so all of the work was genuinely considered as priority (rather than just an end user describing it as a priority). When I realised how stressed out I was getting I did the best thing I could possibly have done in that situation. I took a deep breath, just pushed myself back from my desk and took a break. Just left my desk for 10 minutes, went to the kitchen to chill out, had a nice cool drink and relaxed.

Work just isn't worth getting that stressed out over, it's not good for you and ultimately it's not good for you work either. If things are starting to get on top then my recommendation is to just take a step back, relax for a few minutes and then come back to it, not to just start the whole process over again, but spend maybe 20-30 minutes just making a plan of the best way to tackle what you've got.

After that I was careful not to let my work get to that point again and I've only benefitted from it.

As I sometimes say (to no one), "doing nothing is doing a thing, it's taking a break." Or I also just stand up, walk away. Learn to listen to your body, practice mindfulness if that helps. Sometimes I even take a nap on a rug on the floor, I've even done it in public on a bean bag . I've seen people sleeping wearing headphones on the sofa, but I come from an environment of flexibility where pressure doesn't really exist and yes it's better.

I do know the feeling because, I went 2 solid days contracting in a big open plan office without even breaking to eat lunch, and left late too. It's an awful thing to do to yourself, and it might surprise you that it's frowned upon or at least concerns people. If you feel you need authority to step away from work for 5 minutes then, just ask out loud, I need a 5 minute break. I strongly doubt anyone will disapprove. Just walk away.
