Glad to see a company taking action against people like that. All too often people like that get away with it and the worst that happens is they get quietly moved to another office/department.

I think more important is why you would do it in the first place not think at some point "hey I'm being a banana split here"

Or maybe they're just utter twats undeserving of sympathy.

Is this the point in the story where you somehow work your way back through all your previous employers to make your CV a palindrome of experience?

I think this guy has been seriously butt hurt by bad hires and the cost of HR and is desperate to have someone who will actually do the job well. Good for you.

I still wouldn't take the job yet, just tell whoever your current manager is. It could be sort of dodgy, take you for 6 months to clean up loads of gooseberry fool and then fold, at least then you could take a 4 week holiday or something.

It probably doesn't amount to very much after tax also.

I got promoted at work and was meant to get a pay rise from today. Sadly, I've been told as I have lived abroad in the last five years I'm unable to get security clearance although my work is trying to find a way around the problem. They seem to think it'll be fine but I have my doubts.

God only knows. That's 19 grand a year more than he was paying me when I left btw. Madness.

This is exactly why I'm not entertaining it. The money is more than I could ever hope to earn without being at director level, which isn't going to happen, but there's nothing to stop them turning round in a few months and saying the work has dried up bye bye.

Yeah work security is always more important as there will be high expectations associated with the risk and they probably can't actually afford the salary. You'll want to do your research properly. I'd look at the companies accounts.

Otherwise you may as well consult.

They are probably offering the higher salary to compensate for risk, in which case if I had the time and inclination I'd just consult and take the money for 3 months to see if their gooseberry fool works out.

They're likely paying it on a loan and might be headed for bankruptcy and future layoffs.

They told me that I would be able to get a promotion even without the security clearance when the problem came up a couple of weeks ago. Ugh.

Is it ever a good Idea to step down from a promotion back to your previous position? I don't think it would be a problem as the position will always be there and someone internally could replace me.

Some day's I feel really good about my job and others I feel like I have made a mistake.

The thing is my confidence is easily shaken, others at work don't see it as I can hide it.

How long have you been in the role? Maybe you just need some time to adjust and find your feet.

I'd say no, because you probably won't be given the chance again. It's better to live with the bad days and be where you are than still have bad days but regret the step back.

In other news I got made permanent today :toot: Boss took me aside and said it's up in 10 days but he's already put the paperwork through.

Why do you feel it is a mistake?

Yes?

Promotion and £6k pay rise today. :toot: Backdated to the start of the month. :toot:

I'm still not used to the jump in income I got when I first got this job, so this is bloody brilliant.

Four month's - Don't get me wrong I have more good days, I just put so much pressure on myself and when something upsets my rhythm it knocks my confidence. I think I just need someone to tell me I'm doing a good job but I don't want to be needy.

Completely get that, I have a catch up with my manager tomorrow so will try and find out what I'm doing well at and not so good at.

Congratulations btw!

Chrs bbz. A good informal chat can work wonders, just frame it as a 'I'd like to know how you think I'm doing V how I think I'm doing'.

Your doing a good job.

In all seriousness of there more good days then it's not so bad, and just calm a bit, you can only do what you can do so don't over stress yourself it doesn't achieve anything so don't worry about it.

It sounds like for most part your doing fine but you need to find a way to switch off and stuff which there isn't an easy fix for but is something to find.

I broke my back and it strawberry floating sucks as I can't even do basic practical work that I enjoy without pain. I mean just working with a bloody scalpel and sitting as there is so much small but precise steady movements just to prepare the most basic product like a sticker. I never really appreciated this until it hurt.

It's especially annoying because after years of struggling with self esteem I expect to and want to be able to my job even with nobody to make me do it. I had some markets lines up and a stall next week but I can't make anything for it.

I have bills that I don't know how I'm going to pay them without spending some of my rent set aside which means a deficit at Christmas this year..

Just feeling very frustrated so just trying to recuperate and read a massive programming book bit by bit that I can't even lift in order to generate more sales when I'm better with some tools and if I do try to keep things moving in the workshop even if it is just made up work and experiments I am likely to make things worse.

Whoever invented stairs can strawberry float off especially whoever thought only the top staircase where I rent didn't need a handrail. I mean it was only 10 days ago, apparently it is 6 weeks and I'm already bored.
