One mess-up on a support ticket in the literally months (is it a year now?) you've been working there isn't a big deal. Your boss should look at the pattern of your work, not an isolated incident.

If your boss made a big deal out of being 'disappointed' then I dunno what to say, unless you were grossly negligent it seems pretty unreasonable to me.

He said I thoughr you were experienced enough to x. The thing is when I checked it out I couldnt see any problems.

Hopefully that doesnt set back the promotion I thought O should be getting soon. The thing is we dont have enough people in second line and me and my friend were told we were the next in line to move up since we always work well and are the most experienced first liners within the company.

Honestly I dont see what I did as a mistake. All I did was overlook updating the ticket after checking it but. when I tested there wasnt any obvious problems. When they tested later in the day there was packet loss :/

Don't let a snafu get you down. It will impact on your confidence elsewhere and then that potentially will cause problems. Just acknowledge your mistake and get on with your life. If you're punished for that, your employer is being unreasonable.

Take it from me if you let negative comments beat you down you will feel worse and if your self-esteem is compromised you will actually look bad further down the line, rather than just making a few mistakes. It gets worse from there.

It's much better to take ownership of your mistakes and maintain a positive outlook.

Employers don't understand low self esteem or morale problems. They will always blame you for a "negative attitude". Do not let it get to you.

Do something you enjoy and practice forgiveness for yourself. I really think this is important for long term engagements. It's impossible to have 100% success, you have to roll with the punches. Somebody who can't deal with a mistake or something going wrong whether it's your fault or not, can be a big problem. It's super horrible getting caught up in that, best thing is to not make a big deal of it but return to it if you think you're being treated consistently unfairly at a later date. I am sure most sense of disappointment is largely superficial and will just fade away over time, especially if you have been somewhere for a long time and proved to be useful already, which you certainly have.

Looking at it from a long way away, it's probably a non-event you've worried about sufficiently but more worrying is not helpful to anything.

I'm sure your effort will be recognised soon enough.

Bonus tip: try not to complain too much about a lack of staff support / understaffing. It's (a) upsetting for managers that can't do anything about it due to budgets (b) potentially seen as "blaming". Also a dodgy route to go down. Mention it at some sort of employee meeting / hustle but never use it as a go-to. I was in a situation where myself (1 guy) and sometimes 1 other and a few students replaced an entire department. I never did myself any favours by complaining about a lack of support. It was a bad situation to get into in the first place and there was nothing I could do to improve the situation. It just was what it was. They even admitted that they expected me to do some other job to supplement this shitty job i.e. they knew it was gooseberry fool.

At the end of the engagement I terminated myself retroactively after being dicked around and the top of HR apologised (after I emailed effectively the CEO) for their shitty employment practices and the awful experience I had of being truly understaffed like that and not even rewarded with fixed hours or even a basic contract.

Yeah I would accept it and move on, might be worth asking what you could do better in the interest of self inprovment.

Hopefully your friend won't start treating you like gooseberry fool when they get promoted. Try not to hang out with them though as people will think you are just riding on their success.

So one of my colleagues resigned 2 days ago, had an interview and got a new job yesterday. It was planned for him to stay on a month, but my boss asked him to leave yesterday because he got a new job.

This morning however, he's lying to us and saying that he (my colleague) asked to leave immediately. We're strawberry floated now for the next 3 days as there's going to be barely anyone in the office and I'm seriously pissed off at my boss for lying to save face but I cant really say anything.

Got my interview in couple of hours. I've done so.much preparation for job applications and previous interviews/meetings that I don't feel nervous, just keen to get in, chat and hopefully get the job.

If they have crisps on the table though...
