Feel like I strawberry floated my interview for the marketing role in Holland, find out next week but not hopeful.

On the other hand just got a promotion at work after less than three months which is nice, no pay rise though:/

The first books I worked on in my new job published today. I guess this is what parenthood must feel like. Maybe less disappointing.

I'm in the edit properly for the first time ever today. Real creative control over a TV episode. Scary but very exciting.

It’s a ridiculous system that actually encourages you to have more days off than you need as it punishes for number of number of occurrences during a year rather than number of days you have off. So that makes it utterly pointless to only have one day off sick, you have to have 3 or 4 days off in one go to make it worth it. ;)

We get a bollocking if our score is over 200 but below that is absolutely fine and so it is easy to work out how much of a score you have left to go and see if you can have a few days off.

Thanks for sharing that - very useful!

I got called into a meeting, potentially disciplinary, after I'd had 3 separate sick periods. I can't remember the exact details but they were 1 day here, 2 days there and maybe 4 days another time, over a 6 month period. Yet there were 2 or 3 people who had a whole 6 months off (full pay for 6 months), who came back the day AFTER the 6 months was up, and NOTHING was said. Bull gooseberry fool.

The only thing I'd say is that they don't believe you unless you have a doctors note for proof.

My greatest fear has come true. One of the ladies at work was violently/sexually assaulted by a patient over the weekend. Everyone is strawberry floated up because of it.

There's a meeting with HR next month because of the results of the staff questionnaire sent out being less than favourable. The two main managers need sacked. Their incompetence and poor decision making have left staff vulnerable and we've had too many near misses covered up. I have an interview at the end of the month, and I think I'll accept whatever comes. If I've got somewhere to go, I'll feel confident in being vocal at the meeting without fear of repercussions. Which unfortunately seems to be an issue here with many support staff holding back for the sake of keeping their wages. It's a shite state of affairs and I want no part of it anymore. I've seen and been victim to plenty of attacks, but this one has really got to me, and I don't think these feelings will go away any time soon.

Have you thought of constructive dismissal? I'd VERY strongly suggest getting the advice from a good solicitor and seeing if you can angle it towards the 'unsafe systems' in place, so will be going on long term sick/constructive dismissal until these issues have been resolved.

Is there any kind of legal action the victim can take for failings to ensure her safety? Certainly sounds worth going to see a solicitor and many of them will give a free half hour consultation to see if you've got a case.

Sorry, only read this after I'd posted the last post. 100% this. This is your way out of that shithole without having to resign before a new job comes along. Get a sick note for stress and go and see a solicitor.

They've not actually dismissed her, just left it up to her to decide when she wants to resume with no sick pay in the interim which means she's likely to have to come back early for financial stability. Things have improved since the incident, just sucks that we've had to hit rock bottom before it was managed appropriately.

In better news, it appears I've been headhunted. A nurse who worked with us briefly during another pretty rough spell is now running a care home. He's contacted another nurse to get hold of me, offering us both posts to set up teams to get the home back on track, saying he'd witnessed how I ran the shift through difficult times and he wants that for his new place. It's part time, all expenses paid in rural Scotland. He wants a couple of weekends to do team organisation and get the newly recruited carers in a place where they can run the home similar to my standard.

Finally being recognised, but again not from management. strawberry floaters.

Employers have a duty to provide a safe place of work. An employee can make a successful claim for personal injury if it can be proved the employer has breached this duty.

If it was a one of incident then it would be "unforeseeable" so employers would probably not be liable but if there is a history of incidents then they would likely be found liable.

Shouting at passersby from a milk crate isn't 'teaching' Jon-boy.

Anyway I've 6 full days left until I strawberry float off to France for 3 months. My motivation is at an all time low.

So that job interview I mentioned earlier went well and theyve made me an offer. But its a bit of an odd one, Theyre not meeting my wage expectation right away, theyre going to start me 5k less than that and once my probation is completed I will be moved to my expected salary. Its an odd scenario and one I havent heard of before, a probation period is pretty standard and Ive had one in every job Ive had so thats nothing new to me but the salary only going up once its completed is new.

Anyone come across anything like this before?

Yep I had to jump through this shitty hoop to get to where I am.

In fairness the salary jump was significant and I was a sort of 'project' - Take someone in who knows nothing about the field of work and see how they do kinda thing.

Even so, never again. I am either worth it or not. (In saying that I actually have a desirable skill set now  )

Interesting, it is a bit of a different role than Im used to doing, basically its a young company and theyll be looking for me to guide a lot of the processes they put in place and that kind of thing so it is a step up from just being a guy who does the thing. Im not overly worried about it, I just found it an odd thing and wondered if anyone else had come across it. I think the benefits of taking the job outweigh the (temporary) drawback of a pay reduction.
