My brother did this with strong pound to yen and now it's the complete opposite. Not a bad thing to consider.

Plus isn't Europe generally cheaper to live in than this dive with its rich (banking) resources and snobby banana splits.

The city I'll be moving to is a little cheaper than where I'm used to in Britain, it is an extremely similar country in virtually every way though. Just means i get to be with the gf and hopefully make some mooney

Now that my notice is handed in I am in no mood to do any work, I also dont think they want me to get stuck into much so Im just sitting here running out the clock every day. Great fun!

It's my last day in my current place and I've had everything handed over for the past few. Just been milling about, talking to people, doing absolutely nothing. Still have no idea how to respond to the "where are you off to" question when I've nothing in the bag though. All I know is I really did not want to stay here... which people still here don't generally want to hear. :shifty:

Just say you felt the need to take a short career break, youre still looking for new opportunities but right now you have nothing lined up. Sounds better than "This place is gooseberry fool so Id rather have no job then work here".

which isn't untrue! I've had a couple of interviews but nothing has worked out (wouldn't have been good jobs for me). Also as I've got a fairly young career I wanted to see some different companies and how they do things anyway. It just feels kind of gooseberry fool coming off a grad scheme without staying though.

I personally feel that you should've got something lined up first. It's going to much harder outside of work, or atleast that's what I've been told.

That's all well and good SD but up until the point where the grad scheme ends you have the job... then you don't. There is like an intake of about 50 and only 4 positions the end of the scheme - mental.

Personal I think it should be a Battle Royal style fight for all the Grads. Last one standing gets the job.

This post is exempt from the No Context Thread.

It's a fixed term contract and I was doing a very real job with very real responsibilities up to the end. When you're pulling 9h lunch at desk days + 2h commute + all the prep time, you don't really end up with much time to get your ducks in a row. It's not like I handed my notice in and said "forget it, I'm off" - I've had one eye on this deadline and now it's here.

Intake was even higher! Around 110. It's a big company and there were lots of jobs available across it but nothing in the team I ended up doing best in. Or rather... nothing at my salary level. They got a guy in from the retail estate who they can pay 10k less to do some of the work I was picking up and some stuff I wasn't so I'm not totally surprised. They've only kept two heads out of about 20 who've passed through this department though so again... not surprised.

Ah, I completely missed that it was a grad scheme/contract thing.

One round of PUBG will sort them out.

To be honest it sounds like another dangling carrot, like my unpaid internship except well paid with loads of proper work to do in a company that isn't a strawberry floating joke/scum.. Same picture at the end though, it's equally as sad.

I do hope you find something suitable soon and I commend you for going down the portfolio career route to try different things, a huge amount of people don't have the confidence to even contemplate that and will do the same job for all time. No way could I do that, I'd be hung before I got any kind of satisfaction out of it.

Kind of was a dangling carrot; I was moved into my final placement out of schedule (supposed to have done a year, I was pulled out after 7 months) and until about the end of June was told there might be a role at the end of the time doing it permanently. However my manager at that time told me that option wasn't on the table and I should look elsewhere in or out of the business, as Retail was closed. Which was fair enough - he was upfront about it, can't say fairer than that. But at that point I was sort of reallocated again and started doing some truly exceptional work data modelling the last financial year of trading information for 43 stores etc which was business critical and delivered several weeks early to the extent that I got departmental recognition for it at the end of July... and someone in my team resigned, freeing up a vacancy...

yeah, its largely my own fault for not sticking to my guns (my initial thoughts in April were that I was being managed out of the business - this was basically true). I shouldn't have tried to read into the situation when that clearly wasn't realistic. Still ended in bullshit but from my observations around the company and knowing the imminent reality of another massive round of redundancies I'm just glad to be out now. I didn't leave on bad terms (good references, offers to help) and I was welcome to go for jobs anywhere else outside from where I was (and I probably would have gotten one and been a 'success') but I just didn't think it was an overly healthy place to stay from my time there. If anything that convinced me to go down the portfolio route; the money was good but I just doubt that was the best place I'll ever be.

Didn't get the job I interviewed for last week. Lots of positive feedback but it was a step outside nursing to an admin/business role where they took on an ex secretary instead. Don't feel bad because I knew it was a long shot but nice to hear they liked me anyway.

Staff meeting today was an absolute blast. Our manager looked like he was getting shafted with no lube the whole time getting daggers from his manager for the basic strawberry float ups. Actually went fairly smoothly, I had my research out and had answers for everything. Got great feedback from my team saying I nailed it, giving evidence and referring to policy to exploit their failures while giving cost effective solutions. Manager tried to finish on a positive note reflecting on how good we are and how we've basically done them a favour constantly bailing them out and putting up with this crap, so I took the chance to ask for an away day which we've not had in years. Manager tried to deflect for discussion later, but his manager cut him off to say he'll make funding available. Actually earned some respect for that guy who I wasn't mad keen on before. Also the bitch manager everyone hates got absolutely slated and they had literally no come back for her behaviour and failings. Here's hoping changes will come. Of course I'll be in contact with HR at head office in a week for feedback on the proposal I submitted on behalf of the nursing team. I really don't think they were expecting it.

Nice one Bunni. Good to hear everyone knows you're doing a great job, as well as getting a nod from the higher ups. I've come to realise that the majority of managers in healthcare aren't great at their jobs and seem out of touch with what's going on with the people whose care they are in charge of.

Sounds like progress at last Donna - well played. Hopefully something comes up to get you out of there sharpish though, you're miles better than that place.
