Just been offered a great job in Oxford. Will be a stressful month getting all the relocation stuff sorted and finishing things up at work, but I'm really pleased.

Anyone know anything about Oxford? Tips?

It's a great small city - but pricey as strawberry float.

Also very very clearly a "Uni town". You can see them arrive in herds, and the watch the ebb and flow of the migration patterns due to term times.

Whereabouts in Oxford are you going to be living? Cowley is the most affordable area that's within (long) walking / (short) biking distance of the city centre.

Yeah but even the wheelie bins are on bricks in Cowley.

Plus use the bus. Oxford's quite good for buses.

Pretty much what Hexx said. Oxford is a lovely place (and has great countryside around it) but it is very expensive. And full of posh students.

 You're not wrong.

I lived in Glorious North Oxford so I never had to trouble myself with the Cowley peasantry 8-)

...Now I live in South Wales, which is much worse than any part of Oxford ever could be :slol:

There's some right prick students who are so far up themselves their head butting their own tonsils (A gay chum and I once turned on Grindr in Central Oxford and played a game based on judging soley on a profile pic we had to guess if their bio would mention their degree (or for double points their Phd)

But you also some ones that are smart, grounded, maybe not from posh back gounds etc . Alone. Away from home. Feeling out of their depth and insecure.

So it's not all bad

EDIT: Sorted now I think. I've got confirmation it's not only going to be what I thought it was.

When your reputation hangs in the balance online. Just had to mitigate a shitstorm of online reviews that were extremely harsh. :( thankfully I managed to sort it out interpersonally, but if it wasn't a friend I'd be truly strawberry floated.

Found out a few days ago couple hundred staff are in a consultation period due to us closing down a load of branches are making a brand we own effectively redundant.

Luckily I'm safe for now.

HR have booked out a meeting room at work and is currently being used for summary executions, sorry - redundancy meetings

There may as well be a sign up saying: "All hope abandoned ye who enter here"

Managed to smooth over a case of corporate defamation and client non payment in the same week, then done the taxes. Fun times.

I've been made redundant or otherwise "disappeared" before, so I sympathise, and while I'm thankful I won't make myself redundant any time soon (I can shift market segments or sectors), have to deal with all the gooseberry fool that lands at my feet. There's a risk to any job. :(

Hope you survive the cull.

As for me... I've been given another plate to spin at work. :faketoot:

I'm really worried the impact your hobbies at university are having on your ability to fulfil your commitments here, Karl. We'll need to talk about your employment terms.

pfft. I renamed "plate spinning" as "razor blade juggling" as that is more appropriate.

Yes?
