My company policy is if I don't want to do it now I'll do it tonight or tomorrow. ;)

We are contracted at 9 - 530 but can leave any time after 5, as to browsing web and things as long as stuff is done it is all good. I'm mainly projects and development so it has lots of waiting for progress bars and things so has lots of time for interwebs. Most of the other guys in the office are more support based so they are less free to bum about.

Given everything going on with another member of the forum I feel bad to vent here, but really annoyed at my boss.

One of my colleagues had a ticket since yesterday and hadn't done anything with it. Guy calls to follow up this morning, other colleague takes a message as it's been insanely busy to the point we haven't even really had a chance to follow anything up. He calls again an hour later, I change the name in Exchange he needed changing, but it hadn't propagated.

Fast forward an hour and a bit and the guy acts as if I didn't tell him I was changing it while on the phone with him and pretends nothing has been done.

I get in trouble. strawberry float that. I did what I was meant to do, I helped the client. I get told that I should've deleted the account and remade since it was a new account, although based on the information I had, I had no idea it was a new account and wasn't going to delete anything. We have a few hundred tickets outstanding and my boss is getting stressed about it, so I'm now swapping back into London tomorrow so that my colleague can come back and clear down some he has. It means I don't get my early start/early finish which I've been enjoying all week, but at least I get out of that office. It's been hell.

Is this a particularly bad time for IT support because of new tax year and onboarding/offboarding of clients, employees etc on the customer side?

It wasn't this bad last year, so I've got no idea what's going on right now.

Has the company taken on more clients or something? Doesn't sound good.

Yeah, picking up after your co-workers is also irritating. Part of my job is being made aware of things that co-workers have strawberry floated up. I'm not perfect myself, but some of the howlers I've seen in the past few days are incredible, procedural errors on things that are blindingly obvious. Some from experienced staff. It boils my piss being on the receiving end for something someone else strawberry floated up.

We haven't taken anymore clients, well we have but they've not been the ones calling.

The person I got in trouble for yesterday (the new guy) just got up, went upstairs and quit. I guess he was fed up of how busy it's been. I'm in London today and I've had a fantastic day, so quiet and so easy to concentrate. I feel sorry for those in our office though.

Moving to nightshift on the male ward next week. Should be good for a break but I've had to pick up some overtime to make up for the money I'll lose at not finishing late every shifT. Though we'll see if I stay up there. The manager has made a total cock up of staffing, putting two new staff on my ward (hella busy) and the three most experienced and senior staff on the settled ward overnight. It's bonkers.

What happened to you changing jobs?

I'm still searching, been offered an interview for a role in Glasgow but the pay's not great and it sounds fairly mind-numbing so not mad keen.

I've kinda lost touch with applying elsewhere On my days off I'm just too tired to bother but nightshift is a doss so I'll have plenty of time to apply. Not entirely sure what to do, I've got 10 years nursing/medical field experience but kinda want out to something more creative. Which leaves me stuck in that circle of no experience but no time to gain experience or pay for training.

Somehow passed my probation. Can't believe I've been there six months now. My manager said there would be no reason whatsoever for an extension (or failure) I wouldn't have been surprised if I'd been told to strawberry float off.

I still want to go back to my old place. At least I'm not in any immediate danger of losing my job now.

The ideal job has come up at my old place. Applications close in two weeks.

It's time to lock and load.

(Please Jesus hear my Easter prayer and grant me this one; I'll start believing in you if you do.)

I'm enjoying my current job but the pay is nowhere near good enough. I applied for another one which would be an increase of £13k, got through to the first stage (a literal exam in a room with a pen and paper and everything) and didn't expect to get further. Apparently not caring about things makes you do better as now they want me in for an actual interview :dread:

Started my new job. It's pretty great.

Gave me a Macbook Pro to do whatever with, been out before 5 every day, super relaxed atmosphere. It goes against everything I know that I can be paid substantially more for a job that doesn't make me want to kill myself. I feel like I'm going to wake up.

Sounds awesome mate! What is it you'd doing now?

When I got my new job I had this feeling that can only be described as being treated like an adult.

Sounds mental but after slogging it out in retail for years, to actually go into a work place and not be micromanaged and deal with the shitty public is so refreshing and then to top it off you are basically told that your sole objective is to do your new job and if you don't... then its on you.

Complete autonomy and freedom to work to your best.

Haha yes. I didn't know how to describe it until now. I almost feel like something's wrong because I'm not being pestered all the time. The first day I wasn't sure when to leave because no one told me I could. :fp:

It's an Android development job. Been doing it in my own time for years with the intention of getting a job someday, but in the back of my mind I always had this nagging feeling it was a pipe dream. It's such a weight off to actually be doing it now. :D

Hahaha right! Happened to me too, it was also the sudden realisation that I had full control of my own work load - wanna go to the gym at four? No problems! So long as all your work is up to date

That sounds ace smurphy! Its great to be doing something meaningful and something that you also enjoy!!!

All the best with it dude! :D
