Its not been confirmed but there are suggestions of a unconscious bias course which imo are a waste of time and can have the opposite outcome and are very inaccurate.

I wouldn't want to take part on principle but if made mandatory don't think I'll have a choice and no doubt won't look favourable for me if I voice my concerns.
FFS, this BS really exists. Just say you have common sense so no need for the company to waste money on some BS course. If that doesn't work, just tell them some random poster on a games forum you frequent during work hours said the course is unnecessary.

Its all geared around equality and diversity which I feel is a waste of time but it's something businesses have to show there onboard with.

Yeah but is there a free lunch?

Kicking up a stink about a course on unconscious bias before you've even been asked to attend...

This morning I was looking out of the window and I could see this odd looking bloke in a van in the car park. He was staring at all the women that were driving in. It was hard to tell if he was trying to flirt with them or was laughing at them in an attempt to make them look his way. Pretty creepy really and he seemed to have a particular liking for the larger ladies.

I am not 100% it is the same bloke, but he looked exactly like the guy I saw yesterday that was staring and trying to listen into the conversations of very young looking students. He ended up pushing some poor sod off a bike and laughing about it.

We have some training courses being run here at the moment and I think this oddball is part of that. Hopefully he will not be around here much longer. :dread:

Should I report this weirdo if I see him again or just let it go?

He pushed someone off their bike? He sounds a bit mental.

Fight him 1v1

He is mental. I just saw him again out in the corridor shouting at people for being too loud. :dread:

He's too crazy to fight, I think I will ignore him.

I've now been put in charge of another four departments. strawberry float this.

I decided today that if I don't have a new job by August, I'm just going to hand in my notice and become unemployed. My girlfriend is cool with it so there we go.

Why August? That's 9 months away. Is the 9 months gap significant?

Significant enough to reflect the seriousness of the decision and the planning required to not completely strawberry float my life up by making it.

It also happens to tie in nicely with my honeymoon :slol:.

Surely you've plenty of great experience now with which to get a role at a similar level?

Sounds like you run the company!

I've decided to quit without a job quite a few times but never go through with it.

Got a job offer (woop woop)
They are now going to financial, criminal etc background checks anyone had this sort of thing and know the process?

Basically I've not had an official offer letter just a call and email asking for docs and to complete the checks consent form, would you do notice before or after these checks I'm very confused, I've asked what the process is but if someone has gone through it it would be handy.

I'm not overly keen on the dies of handing notice then checks as in the event the result doesn't match what they want it to then Ive lost the offer and I lose my current job (or at least could if current place won't let me withdraw notice which I imagine thyley won't let me do as they have a habit of taking this sort of thing personally)

I would put the notice in after you clear the checks. I used to do exactly that job doing backgrounds checks on behalf of Dell, Oracle etc. and they will try to 1:1 match your CV along with your references and if there is anything like exaggerating your job title or responsibilities, incorrect dates, uncorroborated gaps in employment (more than 3-6 months) my instruction would be to flag it and it's up to the client whether or not that's OK. The criminal check is standard crim background check (I didn't do those) and financial checks are just for stuff like money laundering, didn't do that either. You'll be fine, just answer any questions truthfully so you're not marked as a bullshitter (could lose you the job) and if your references are good you'll be fine. Anything bad just goes down as an advisory and some are plain written off because the client has given instructions that they don't care about that, sometimes the client will also just wave things through because they want to move along. It can take about 1-3 weeks depending on how difficult it is to get hold of referees and the candidate if there are questions.

The most strawberry floated up thing we did was called a "media search" which basically meant scouring the internet for signs of certain kinds of activism or political views or lewd behaviour that the employer did not like.

This was for everything from interns, to people doing their first job after waitering for years in Italy or something, to 100k+ big cheeses managing entire continental areas of IT. My favourite thing was just phoning the CEO to get a reference and having some guy in a lux 4x4 answer me on bluetooth while driving to pick up their kids or whatever, they were so chill about it.

Probably the best reference I got for some guy leaving for Citrix from McAffee Antivirus was for some Italian guy, the referee simply said "I wish I could clone him". I put it down as "excellent reference".
