Something is wrong. Don't convert your RAW files. Lightroom 3 supports NEF files.

http://forums.adobe.com/message/2967908

One guy on there uninstalled and reinstalled it and it worked. Another reason could be the files are somehow corrupt.

Ah, cheers for the info. I've been shooting in jpeg but not wanting to.

TBH, it's not a version I necessarily paid for :shifty: so I'm considering just buying 4 - it already won't let me use plugins because it knows I'm using a pirated key.

Or I might download the Beta of 5 then eventually buy a key for that. Need to wait for payday.

Yeah, if the five beta is out, don't buy 4. I'm still on 3.5 because it does everything I want and I don't fancy shelling out another 50 quid.

Same here. Aside from the NEF issue, 3.5 does everything I need. I was looking at 5 at the weekend, though, and it has some neat features, so I should just bite the bullet and go honest.

In fairness, I don't mind paying for stuff if I'll use it, and I know I'll certainly get my money's worth out of LR now I've been playing with 3 for a few months.

I just used the trial and waited for the price to drop. I think I managed to nab a copy for £45 on eBay or something. Worth it.

I lent my S95 to a friend to take to Japan, she came back and then took it out to the park where someone knocked it out of her hands and it fell on the floor, scratching the screen.

I'm stupidly careful with my stuff and the idea of a fat scratch on the screen just makes me sick, I can't really sell it and get a fair price for it now because it is damaged.

What should I do in this situation? I'm not sure..

Should have used gs glass or wrist strap. You could try buffing it out with displex and a lint free cloth and then putting a gs glass screen protector over the top so you don't notice the bumps. If It's a deep scratch you will probably remove some anti uv/glare layer, but if you're careful you can localise it. I did this with my 2nd hand Lumix (which still has a nice glossy protector on it) which had big scratches and it worked great. Because it's glass there is no affect on the appearance of the screen or refraction effects so I've never noticed it. After 3 years, some dust has collected in between but they're only a tenner to apply a new one.

"Should have" :fp:

Well yeah, using gs glass or wrist strap would have helped but that's not what happened. I was thinking more, should I charge this person to buy my camera from me now that they have damaged it...

If not, you seem to have posted some good advice on fixing the scratch, will the internals not have been damaged by the shock from hitting the floor?

Charging your mate for a scratch on your camera?

Only if you put the money towards seeing a psychiatrist.

Ex girlfriend and she dropped it, not sure of the damage yet. Could be minor, could be massive. She was also asking to buy it before dropping it, as she liked it so much.

Bought a cheapo lens at the weekend, a Tamron 70-300mm. Off to the lakes at the weekend so needed some cheap zoom, and fast.

I also bought a Raynox DCR-250 Macro Attachment for 40 notes. Came recommended in a magazine, and why would a magazine lie to me?

I'll post feedback here when I've had some time with both, on the off-chance anyone gives a gooseberry fool.

Let me know how you get on with the 70-300. I looked at one of them myself.

As an aside, anyone know of an easyish way in photoshop or something to fix out of focus or blurred shots?

Taking my camera on its first trip abroad this Saturday. Will be in coastal Turkey for a couple of weeks and will be taking the usual holiday snaps as well as (hopefully) getting some decent shots of ruins and volcanoes etc on days out.

I bought a smallish bag from Amazon to take with me, but as it only has room for the body and 2 lenses, which of my 3 would you best recommend to take?

I have:

Canon 18-55mm
Canon 50mm
Tamron 70-300mm

The 50mm is a really small lens right? Just pop that in another bag and take the other two.

If that really isn't an option, I'm begrudged to say the two zooms. Sounds like you'll be doing a few landscape pictures and will need the wide 18, and guess you want to get close so the 70-300 is a must.

I didn't even realise this thread existed :fp:

Could someone recommend a DSLR camera for around £250-£300?

What camera would you be coming from? What do you intend to use it for?

At that end of the market, your choice is very limited. I am new to DSLRs but all the research I did pointed towards sticking to Canon or Nikon. Perhaps you could go second hand? Get a reconditioned body, perhaps?

My camera, the Nikon D3200, was about £380, with a kit lens. I have since spent a further £100 on a cheap zoom lens, and I want a 32mm lens sooner rather than later.

I guess just read a lot of reviews and work out what you want from your camera. Mine is fine for my hobbyist needs, but I know it's inadequate for what others do.

You will not find a DSLR camera worth owning within that price range. Save up an extra £100 or so.
