Best Buy had 50% off Blu-ray, DVD and CDs today. Picked up Star Wars - The Complete Saga on Blu-ray for £35. Even though Phantom Menace is a bit gooseberry fool, looking forward to seeing it in HD. 8-)

Yes?

Hmm, that info would've been useful 24 hours ago.

Nice deal though.

Only a commentary track as an extra but the picture and sound it meant to be pretty decent.

Thanks! I just received mine today and it came in a nice shiny silver slipcase :D
I haven't seen this film before either so looking forward to watching for the first time and in 1080p with DTS HD MA 5.1 sound

Mine didn't come with a damn slipcase  but does come with a newer style cover.

But mine does have more extra's than just the commentary. Deleted scenes, full version of how the Blair-Thing should of been like, test shots of doing the spaceship at the start of the movie. The last 2 weren't on the DVD release if I remember correctly.

I think mine has those extras too. It says on the back that there is: Commentary, The Thing: Terror Takes Shape, Outakes, Galleries, theatrical trailer, U-Control, Picture in Picture too.
Either way its a bargain for £4.99 :)

Add Halloween to the list of old movies on Blu-ray that look like they were shot yesterday.

MASSIVE improvement over the DVD, it looks perfect

For anyone with a Best Buy near them, all Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs are 50% off for good it seems. They are not getting any more stock and are clearing it all out. Picked up another few bargains yesterday.

Hello, there was something I was meant to ask in the 'Asda do £40 Blu-Ray players' thread but I'll ask here.
Is there much of a difference between, say, one of these and a proper branded one? It would be an ideal gift for my dad, y'see.

I wouldn't imagine there would be a great deal of difference. The main deciding factor would be the TV you're running it on.

I Google'd this info when I was buying a Blu-ray player and the general consensus was there's not much difference between sets.

I don't know anything specific about the £40 one but a few years ago there was quite a difference between players. Something that a lot of early players suffered with is long loading times before a disc starts. I assume very few still have that problem but for £40 you never know what they've skimped on.

Richersounds sell a Toshiba Blu-Ray player for £49.95 (link).
I did a quick search for some reviews but couldn't find much other than lots of people at AVForums recommending it. One to consider anyway.

Without sounding too much of a snob, would you buy a £10 DVD player from Asda or spend a bit more for a branded model?

I'd get a branded model, which is why I'm getting the one that satriales linked me to.
