Are the 3 animated shorts in HD? Or are they SD like the DVD release versions?

Just wait until it's cheaper, the DVD version doesn't look great at all, very blurry with faded colours. The Blu-ray on the other hand is a remaster and it looks fantastic.

I got it and I'm like 95% sure they were HD.

thanks guys. A 100% would be great though, I couldn't find the answer online elsewhere.

I've already acquired the main film in HD so I'd only pick up the BluRay if the rest was HD so I could rip them. I already own the film 3 times :fp:

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/120650- ... -tv-owners

Sony plans to launch a range of "Optimized for 4K Ultra HD TVs" Blu-ray discs later this year for owners of its range of 4K televisions to show off the upscaling capabilities.

The titles aren't 4K resolution, however Sony is hoping that until 4K films can fit on a Blu-ray disc (a 4K movie is around 200GB) it will act as a stop-gap for those looking to benefit from the 4K television they have bought from Sony or LG.

The 15 new titles, which will come in two waves, will include films such as Total Recall, Ghostbusters, Karate Kid, Taxi Driver, and The Other Guys.

No release date has been confirmed by the Japanese company for the new higher bit-rate movies, however execs talking to Pocket-lint have confirmed the new releases will be coming to the UK.

The new movie-releases will play on all current equipment including the company's range of Blu-ray players and the PS3, however have been mastered from the 4K, usually 35mm film footage. They will also come with enhanced colour information for the company's new range of televisions to use in their favour to ensure red's, blue's, and green's are even more vibrant than ever.

Sadly, to make way for the new better quality footage, all special featurettes have been dumped.

While it might sound confusing, it's not a new idea to Sony. In a similar move with DVD, the company created superbit DVD. It was an enhanced version of DVD for those that wanted a better picture quality over standard DVD. Not surprisingly Sony canned the format in 2007 when it shifted its focus to Blu-ray.

I wonder if these will look better than the regular version on 1080p TVs/players.

What a waste of money

Should be focusing on streaming from now on which means bringing file sizes down, not up.

Just noticed Ghostbusters is in the line-up, yet it's one of the worst looking Blu-rays out there. I'd buy the 4K copy if it meant it's received a Blade-Runner style remaster.

Will be interesting to see the reviews.

Apparently they wont have extras because the file size is bigger which means less compression. But will it be noticeable to the untrained eye to see the difference between a 1080p blu-ray (which is great) and a 1080p blu-ray that is less compressed I don't know.

Why not just put the special features on another disc?

Even a normal 1080p blu ray will look quite a bit better on a 4K tv. From hands on tests, they said a 4K TV playing the same blu ray as a 1080p TV, made the 1080p TV look SD in comparison.

I'll wait for the HighDefDigest revews, hopefully they'll be comparing them to the original releases on a 1080p TV.

Personally a DVD copy of 'Arachnophobia' would do me ok. I believe it was this film that started my fear of spiders

yeah same here. I first watched it when I was like 5, so my fear of spiders must have started from this movie as well  lol

Nah, screw that, I want broadband speeds to be faster so streaming a 200GB file faster than you can play the movie is doable. Netflix in HD just doesn't look HD because it's so heavily compressed. They're about half the file size of a piracy 720P rip of the same length and it shows.

Is the Game of Thrones blu-ray season 1 and 2 boxset just the individual boxsets in one or is it one of those collection that has those annoyingly shitty thinner cases for each season?

Seems like Ghostbusters has finally got the transfer it deserves (4K master)

http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/32315 ... -transfer/

While Sony Home Entertainment’s June 2009 Blu-ray release of Ghostbusters somehow won a “Reaper Award,” I was sitting at home scoffing at how badly I felt ripped off. The transfer was absolute garbage; not to mention an insider explained to me that they actually used an old, damaged upconverted transfer, instead of doing it right.

Almost 4 years later, Sony is making amends (at the expense of our pocketbooks) with their 4K release of Ivan Reitman’s 1984 horror comedy starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver.

Our friends at DVDTalk pointed us to the blu-ray forum where they shared some screengrabs of the new 4K Master. According to @TylerFoster of DVDTalk, Sony actually created brand a new transfer this time. He explains, “They actually did it over, from the negative.”

Those screens do look lovely :datass:

Never picked up the BluRay yet due to the above reason, so this will definitely be mine
