Am I putting it across like that, or am I highlighting and criticising clearly weak elements?

Skyrim is actually my first Elder Scrolls game I've ever played so the combat didn't bother me too much, especially as my first main character was a Mage.

I have started again recently with an Orc sword and shield character, though and I find it quite fun timing blocks and then countering.

True, but your being overly critical....and quite dramatic about it. Plus, give me some feedback on how you Think it could be improved, instead of just complaining about it.

I think combat could be improved by making it much harder, making it heavier, and providing more choice instead of hit/dont hit.

I think the story and writing could be improved by hiring somebody who knows how to write, like, say, a proper writer.

I think the world could be improved by making it narrower and deeper instead of wider and shallower.

Happy?

Spot on....the story is terrible, as was Oblivions, it could use much improvement there. I also think the game could be made better with some survival elements added, I mean....I spend 100 hours in the wilderness hacking up monsters and completing epic quests, and I don't need food or drink to stay alive. Voice acting is another thing, all the NPC's sound like a poor Schwarzenegger impersonator...And the dialogue, is badly repetetive. The ammount Of times I heard that phrase, I used to be an adventurer like you till I took an arrow to the knee.....It drove me insane after a while

Funnily enough, regarding repeated dialogue - there are a lot more dialogue lines but they are never used due to shitty coding. There is a mod on PC which adds these back in and it makes things a lot more bearable.

Regarding the repeated voice actors, Im willing to take it easy regarding that it is primarly a technical limit. Having all different voice actors would take mountains of space, as well as costing a fortune. And Skyrim is much better than Oblivion which itself is better than Morrowind in this respect.

Many elements are possible to mod in later. Your survival stuff, for example, could easily be added after the fact. But there's serious constraints on what modders can do to fix the combat system. That really needs the developers to incorporate from the get-go.

Booted this up again the other day, without adding in high res packs it's looking a lil ugly (not sure if I can be arsed yet).

Always found both Oblivion and Morrowind to be the superior games overall.

The game is hideous without mods now, as I've said before I couldn't play through again on vanilla Skyrim. Combat could do with a mod facelift (say add in a decent parry system along with a few good combo animations you could follow up with) not too fussed with dismemberment as I play using a bow anyway.

Oh and snow trolls with huge cocks chasing you across the lands :datass:

;) yep, nothing beats fantasy like a well hung troll. Seriously though, the question is....will they change it? It'd just as easy for them to keep it as it is, the elder scrolls is a 20 year old game series that's still going strong, I'm surprised the creator's havnt taken advantage of that fact and brought the games out sooner just like any other main stream company.

Aye, I was surprised by just how hideous it is. Awful awful textures and it's just grainy looking.

I too mostly play with a bow, I tend to favor the light stealthy bow type, but yeh the melee combat is insipid.

I just downloaded a load of mods but not sure if i'm gonna bother. Started GTA 5 again instead (another game with some awful textures).

The GTA 5 visual weakness is resolution, aliasing and framerate, not textures.

Meh, I find the textures to be very plain.

Absolutely sick of random Vampire attacks in towns. They kill off important characters like the blacksmith in whiterun...just strawberry float off and stay out of towns.

Best thing to do is to try to get to towns during the day that's what I found worked for me

Aye but when you fast travel time changes to night often. Maybe I'll start travelling to the stables.
