Perks of physical, £15 on Amazon which is a bargain for how much time you can sink into it! Even buying it 3 times full price and once reduced (360 version as it was cheaper to get the ‘Legendary’ edition rather than actually buying the DLC on its own, not that I ever got around to playing it :fp:) its still had me hooked for hundreds of hours!

The interesting parts of Elder Scrolls lore and story have been increasingly hidden as they've moved more and more towards generic fantasy. Compare Morrowind -> Oblivion -> Skyrim. The cool stuff in Skyrim is almost entirely buried in lore books or just gone entirely so you have to read the wiki to find it instead. It seems very deliberate because the more generic fantasy setting is an easier sell with mass market appeal. VI is going to be interesting for its setting because they've already used Cyrodiil and Skyrim in the last two games which are the regions more suited to generic western fantasy (being basically Romans and Vikings and both being lands of european human "races").

Fallout is much better than TES for having an actual narrative theme (although no longer the original theme of nuclear war is bad). 76 is very cohesive in its theme of automation. The pre-apocalypse mining industry dominates the map and most of the pre-apocalypse stories relate to automation and job losses.

Jenuall wrote:Worse than that is Oblivion where I have equally dumped hundreds of hours into it and yet have never actually progressed the main quest line. As far as I know Jauffre is still waiting for me wherever Patrick Stewart or the Blade guy at the start tells you to go and meet him! :slol:

Very fair but also the battle for Kvatch is like the first thing you do in the main quest and is actually pretty damn cool (and is also the trigger for oblivion gates opening all over the world which I guess you have never done any of? Some are better than others but they are kind of a big part of the game - like if you never trigger the dragons in Skyrim).

Finished the Dawnguard DLC for Skyrim today, really enjoyed it bar the boss at the end which just felt like a bit of a sponge health wise, Serana seems like a great follower too. I’ll be starting the Dragonborn DLC tomorrow most likely, not really fussed about making my own house though so will probably not bother with that. Hopefully Dragonborn is at least as good as Dawnguard if not better!

Way more excited for Avowed than TES VI.

Sod that. I’ve added it to my wishlist and hopefully it’ll be on sale.

It's regularly on sale. Was £13 or so not too long ago.

From the small amount we saw, Avowed did look like it could be pretty good. Will play the hell out of them both

Yeah I'm looking forward to Avowed. Obsidian have a great track record and their most recent effort Outer Worlds was already another reminder that they do TES/Modern Fallout style games better than Bethesda do

Pretty insane if both are exclusive.

Have to reinstall the game first though :(

I happened to see it on the PS store when I bought Division 2, otherwise I also would never have known

I'm just glad I get to try both with Gamepass.
I have a feeling Avowed will be the better game simply because they don't have the same constraints as the Elder Scrolls series and it's made using new tech designed for next gen so should hopefully take advantage of it a bit more.

Well Avowed definitely will be, time will tell on TES IV.

I might finally get around to plying The Outer Worlds when I get Game Pass again, did look rather good and it seemed to be received quite well on here too!

That's been confirmed as being upgraded for the Series X at launch, hasn't it?
If so I'll buy it then.

Not that I know of tbh...I mean it's 4K on X1X so maybe it'll be 60/4K?

Just started Dragonborn, Soltsheim is a bit drab isn’t it? Was this what Morrowind was like colour palette wise?

Edit, few hours in and it’s really good though, not sure if it’s because I’m in the 50’s level wise but some of the enemies are proper health sponges  also been one shotted by an arrow a couple of times. Don’t think I’ll do everything it has to offer but at this point just getting through the main quest will be good, picked up the Deathbrand armour too.

Think I'm going to reinstall Skyrim and actually try and do some of the DLC quests for a change. In fact outside of the thieves guild questline and the main quest I don't think I really got into anything else!

If you’re not fussed about actually role playing then all the main quest lines are pretty good, so the Dark Brotherhood and College of Winterhold. You don’t exactly need to be going for a mage to enjoy the college for example as you get the spells you need (or you start with them), likewise with the Dark Brotherhood in that you don’t need to be role playing as an assassin, items gained from each do benefit the play styles they’re intended for of course. Both DLC are very good as well, not fussed about Hearthfire so can’t comment on that one but if you like the idea of building your own place it’ll probably be good enough.

I think one more (lightly modded) run of Skyrim and then I can call my time with it, except for the odd wander around of course.

I found the Dark Brotherhood quite disappointing after their excellent questline in Oblivion. I like the civil war questline, although less for it being interestingly told and more just for the relatively large battles and territory changes.
