I only ever tried playing Home on one occasion. I heard that the gameplay experience improved, but that initial play was so tiresome that I never felt compelled to give it another go. I wonder how much dough Sony spent on the idea.

I went through a phase of using Home quite regularly, I liked all the little games you could play in each area but the novelty wore off quite quickly.

Home file size, and how slowly it downloaded, killed any passing interest I had in it.

I wonder how much Sony spunked away on that POS...

It actually probably made money off the micro-transactions and gooseberry fool like that.

I never even used it, but I hate the fact that you're forced to download it an have it stink up the XMB just like the strawberry floating Singstar icon. :fp:

It was so good that Sony wanted to try something new in the console industry, it was built on the philosophy of being made more social (they've taken a better direction this generation). But a lot of time and money could have been saved if Sony execs asked each other "What is PlayStation Home?" and then tried to answer it with a single sentence - but they didn't do that. They had noble intentions but you have to have a plan and the fact that no one from Phil Harrison to any other exec could properly define it was why it didn't work. No one knew what it was for exactly.

I remember being so excited at the reveal. But when it finally was released all you were doing was running around some pretty futuristic shopping centres with nice views of the harbour. You'd wonder around and see people running urgently jogging somewhere, or doing funky dance moves, female avatars were stalked. I did like having a virtual flat, and the Batcave but it took time to load every area. Farewell then.

Did they not get banned from PSN for a month for this or something?

Both above statements are correct :fp:

The article only mentions the service being closed down in Asia.

The only fun I got from home was deleting that piece of gooseberry fool.

Yeah, I played it for five minutes and deleted it. It was less fun than the sims. THE strawberry floating SIMS.

It was potentially a really good idea. Releasing it when there was nothing of note, and allowing that to form most people's initial and only impressions, was a very bad idea. Later on there were some valid reasons to waste a few minutes with it. Although some of the good ideas that were proposed never really happened or were implemented poorly.
