I agree, it's complete nonsense. Their want for a bespoke customs union similar to the one we have now but also to be able to negotiate trade deals freely is completely off the table.
Generally when there has to be extremely "careful wording" around a set of policies, it doesn't show nuance (which is probably what they want to play it as), it shows indecisiveness. Which is exactly what Labour has been doing in regard to Brexit since Corbyn.
