There’s a good argument that had we given up along with France in 1940 the Germany may have taken Russia out by 1941/1942. I think that was definitely possible.

Wouldn't that mean that Hitler was the biggest factor in Germany losing the war as he could have not attacked Russia and then just finished off the UK.

Yeah there’s loads of factors really, it’s almost pointless discussing it.
I do think "Who won the war???" is a crappy question, but "Britain!!!" is also a crappy answer. I think it has to be recognised that the Russian effort in eastern Europe was extraordinary. According to Wikipedia, we lost four hundred thousand soldiers to the Axis, and they lost around ten million.
I think I would either answer 'Russia' or 'I don't know' if they put the survey in front of me.

I don't know about pointless but I think that poll massively simplifies a complex topic.
