He has said that he doesn't want an economic border. The BBC commenters are happy with this.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-40819687Pay back the UK the money we gave to bail out your banks - then stop sticking your nose in our business. Brexit is the result of a democratic process. Get over it Leo.
so now the fools who want us to be ruled by the EU are moaning that we will break up the UK,
PMSL you cant make it up.
i mean all we want is a united UK not governed by outsiders.
so where are our differences, i guess you remoaners are really brexiteers but just dont know it yet
Brexit wasn't an economic question, we voted Leave against overpopulation.
We're not having a soft border with Ireland, it will just be a backdoor to mass immigration. If necessary, Northern Ireland should leave UK and join Southern, let Southern Ireland carry that financial & social millstone round their neck instead of us.
Indeed, Ireland needed a loan (as it was going bankrupt), the UK happily gave it a loan.
Ireland seems to now view that act of friendship as some sort of attack, no good deed goes unpunished, as they say.
Tough, Varadkar. You don't get a say. The British people got a say for once, and they said they want borders.
Ireland is a nothing country, why is this even news.
Why have we got to come up with a plan for everything? Maybe the EU have less ideas than us or they aren't allowed to speak without collective permission?
'The Irish prime minister, Leo Varadkar, has said he does not want an economic border between Britain and Ireland.'
Thanks Leo, I'm sure WE'LL bear that in mind when WE make OUR decision.
Ireland is playing a dangerous game as EU stooge
Nobody wants a border, but Ireland & the EU can't expect the UK to break itself up to suit Ireland & the EU.
If the EU insists on making Northern Ireland a lever in Brexit negotiations, Ireland may have to make a choice between the UK and the EU.
and the UK is far more important culturally and economically to Ireland than the EU.
Trying to stir up trouble is he
The Irish should shut up, or start building a wall, I never understood why they get the right to live and vote in Britain anyway, they just want our money like the rest of them.
The Irish are fretting because the UK is it's biggest export market.
They need to be a bit more respectful.
We are leaving the EU and have a land border with it.
Big deal!
If Varadkar doesn't want an economic border then he should either:
a) leave the EU or
b) insist that he negotiates the border issues on behalf of the EU - but he won't be allowed to. Because the EU would rather punish than reward and destroy than create at the alter of integration and control.
Given the aggressive rhetoric from the EU and it's members toward Britain of late, I reckon we need to go full Trump and build a wall.
The Irish are always keen to build a wall.
Just do a full hard Brexit. this will bring stability as then everyone will know what it means and end all the in out fighting. As this only brings a future of uncertainty and weakness from the UK. The remain camp are only weakening the UK in the process, making sterling weak, and increasing the burden on everyone.

The Irish are our brothers for pity sake, our nearest neighbours

You mean like their Eastern European PM?
Or like thaat former boss of Haringay Council? How many Irish on our Public Sector gravy train? Some African Nations used to educate their people to commit credit card fraud & money launder to rip off the West. Irish educate theirs to become UK Public Sector servants.
I think it outrageous the Irish nationists are threatening to restart the murder and bombings in the north, and probably the UK mainland, if the UK doesn't give in to their demands for an open border. Ireland depends a lot on the uk for trade to Britain and the transit if goods to the eu. Perhaps they should remember that before they go shouting their mouths off about restart violence in the north
If a hard border is required then that is what we shall have, the western ports will just have to start looking at all who enter which would not be a bad thing.
Our approach to Irish access has been way too lax considering the size of the black market between our states.
The traveller problem also needs addressing due to the strain put on our councils for what is essentially an Irish problem.
Solution for Irish problem is Ireland should leave EU customs union and should join UK customs union
What a lovely bunch Leavers are.
