It’s a nice idea but I can’t see any new party breaking through over the next few decades. The SNP are our third party at the moment and they don't stand anywhere but Scotland. The Lib Dems barely have enough MPs for a football team, the other smaller parties barely have enough for a 5 a side. I can’t see how anybody else can break through, especially with the FPTP system.

They did get funding from a property developer called Richard.

If any GRcaders do want to stand as a candidate though: https://renewbritain.org/become-a-candidate-2/

Remember to mention GRcade in your maiden speech to Parliament.

My favourite snippet from Renew's policy page:

We acknowledge the huge difficulties facing the NHS, we will use experts to identify the problems and research the appropriate solutions. We will use technology to restore service and relieve pressure on A&E units.

Now, why hasn't anyone before thought to use technology and experts to solve the NHS's problems?

The first I heard of them was RichardUK’s post earlier, but they sound like a bunch of office middle managers.

Renew is a new type of political party which aims to transform British politics by recruiting people from all over the country to stand for parliament. We want to use a people-centred approach to drive the country, consulting real people in the decision making processes to find real solutions.

A people-centred approach to find real solutions?

Meh, they don’t appear to be saying anything other than they don’t like Brexit. Which is great, except we already have parties that say that and they didn’t get many votes at the last election.

Unless they get a bunch of defections from pro-EU Labour and Tory MPs I don't see the party really getting off the ground.

Ideally they'd get existing pro-EU MP defections and then just absorb the Lib Dems entirely.

They need a really charismatic leader too. These days the leader can be what makes it breaks a party given how many people vote based on the individual they want to be PM rather than the party.

I don't know I feel like a single issue party free form baggage would be a good thing right now. I feel like we need a change in British politics.

I see this Daily Mash article remains ever relevant.

UK voters desperately want a pro-European party with sensible centrist policies, according to a politician determined to ignore the existence of the Lib Dems.

James Chapman, former chief of staff to David Davis, told media that the public would overwhelmingly back a party opposed to both Brexit and extremism while pretending he had never heard of Vince Cable.

He continued: “There’s a huge appetite for an alternative to either Labour or the Tories, a third party that can capture those voters crying out for moderation.

“A party that offers a clear alternative on Brexit, such as the promise of a second referendum, would be guaranteed to capture at least 48 per cent of the vote nationally. That’s simply fact.

“My new centrist party, which would emphasise British values of liberalism and democracy and probably have neutral orange branding, would rocket to victory and smash the two-party system once and for all.”

Mary Fisher of Bath said: “A party like that would definitely get my vote. Around here there’s no-one to vote for but the bloody Lib Dems.”

They seem to support some left-leaning centrist ideas. This is good.

They don't have a manifesto. This is bad. They don't have profiles of the personal politics of their founders or candidates. This is very bad.

Their founders are an accountant, a consultant, a spin doctor, and a civil servant. Their candidates mostly consist of university academics (particularly in tech), consultants (particularly in economics), and corporate suits. There is a literally a politics student in there. This is all fine with me, but...

They claim to be 'run by inspiring ordinary people'. This is bad. They are a centrist (left-leaning) party comprised of people who most would consider 'rich' and/or 'experts'. If they are trying to corner the 'not part of the establishment!' vote they will get torn new ones over and over again.

If I were putting a party together I don't think it would be tonnes different, so I'm interested in where it goes, but they need to drop pretences towards populism now. Be the Expert Party and be proud of it if that's what you're going for.

We need a change but I am not convinced that it will happen. People worry too much that their vote is irrelevant now, convincing them that their vote should go on a completely new party that appears to have no unique policies? I can’t see it happening.

If they can attract some charismatic and talented people then they might be able to slowly build something, but it will be far too slow to have any impact on Brexit. Brexit will be a long way in the past before they get anywhere near enough traction to make a difference.

The National Health Action Party are a party of experts that have the support of the anti-Tory progressive alliance parties. I'd say they're at least as deserving of our support.

We do have people trying to change things every day. Even within the Conservative party there are people opposing this. Anna Soubry, for instance, might be fighting a losing battle, but she has my full support.

You reckon? I would have thought the Trump and Brexit era has shown people exactly how much their vote matters.

Has everyone had their tax breakdown for 2016/2017? I'm so glad we'll be saving around 0.8% of my contribution from those bloody foreigners.

I am not saying don’t try, I am saying don’t be shocked if a brand new party doesn’t take off.

I don’t reckon, I know. Look at the 2017 general election, how many votes went to parties other than the Conservatives, Labour and the SNP?

People look at the Lib Dems or independents as a “wasted vote, they won’t win!”.

John Cleese's videos for the Lib Dems since the 1980s are just as relevant now as ever.

Lib Dems have had a higher membership than the Conservatives for the last six months now.

I haven't had mine yet, but I was looking for my driver's documents the other day and found a previous tax breakdown statement I had. The pie chart amuses me.
