Given that Farage never actually turns up I wouldn't worry too much about him representing the country in the European parliament. The only MEP with a worse voting record is one from Ireland who has literally never voted at all because he was hospitalised.

Farage has a voting record of 37.8% in the European parliament.
Claims 100% of his salary and expenses though.

That’s democracy though, I don’t like most MPs but it doesn’t change the fact that people voted to put them there.

What’s really anti-democracy are those people that refuse to acknowledge that people can change their minds and refuse any further votes on an issue.

From the perspective of getting paid to effectively piss about all day and amuse oneself, I can appreciate it.

The Sun made a loss of £24million last year though, with advertising and sales falling, popularity of buying newspapers declining, a £7m bill for redundancies, and various legal costs.

I didn't realize that Varadkar delivered his main speech in 4 languages! :shock:

What’s it like to actually admire and feel proud of your elected leader? I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced that in my 35yrs.

Boris Johnson announcing today he wants a road bridge (or underwater tunnel) built between France and the U.K, joining the U.K. to Europe closer than ever before.

Everyone thought he was speaking metaphorically, but no...he wants an actual bridge. You couldn’t make it up.

Source on this? Though this has reminded me of a time on another forum where an American guy literally thought we actually had a bridge connecting the UK to mainland Europe :lol:

Telegraph, Friday.

Boris Johnson has raised the prospect of Britain and France building a bridge over the Channel as Emmanuel Macron said the two countries should “make a new tapestry together”.

The Foreign Secretary, who met his French counterpart at an Anglo-French summit today, said it was “ridiculous” that two of the world’s biggest economies are “linked by a single railway”.

He has already championed the idea of a road tunnel under the Channel alongside the existing tunnel that carries rail passengers and freight but believes a bridge is now an option.

Mr Johnson has told aides: “We are two of the world’s greatest economies linked by a single railway. It’s ridiculous.

Technology is moving on all the time and there are much longer bridges elsewhere, including one that is 34 miles long in Japan.”

Presumably it would be extremely high and have struts very far apart. The one in Japan looks like a bloomin’ rollercoaster though.

I see no problem with the current method of driving a car onto a train/boat and having a vey pleasant journey for 2 hours or so, apart from costs.

Is it even possible to ventilate a tunnel of that length under a huge body of water like that? Especially when you're talking about the fumes from car exhausts.

Not to mention dealing with breakdowns, people needing to stop to pee etc.
It is too far to be a "you must keep going" tunnel and to under the sea to make a services or whatever.
