Are they actually offering freedom of movement? My limited understanding at this point was that N.I would remain as before with access to Irish passports, current EU citizens will get their rights enshrined and UK citizens currently abroad are ok as long as they remain in the current country but won't get FOM across borders into other EU countries. Nothing for those UK citizens with no Irish lineage who might want to retain EU FOM.

What's the deal with Irish passports? If I moved to NI how long would it take before I could apply for one?

What do you mean “now”? What was ever the point?

Well for Brexiters it was about "Taking back control" but now there isn't even the basic appearance of doing that.

Exactly, the whole thing is pointless and always was pointless.

Still, blue passports eh?

There seems to be growing proportion of English people that think the Empire can be rebuilt.

I look forward to the invasion of America. ;)

Hopefully, Trump will have left the country weakened and the states will stop cooperating. That way we can slowly take over by offering support to the different parties, it'll be like India all over again.

So hold up here. Is this freedom of movement AFTER the transition period? Because, if it is, what is the actual point of Brexit?

I thought this only related to the transition period, the actual everything will be decided next in the trade agreement. Although how they can come to anything other that basically this when they can't put a border in Ireland or have NI and the UK on different rules.

Erm, which is exactly what Portillo said, but the quote conveniently stops. People see what they want to see, read what they want to read.

This is pathetic though. You've got rid of the rest of the quote in which Portillo said Britain has been disruptive in Ireland, just so you can create the cheap jibe yourself. Over 2,000 retweets and over 7,000 likes on a fake quote.

I'm not sure if that applies to Northern Ireland, probably have to live in the Republic (residence "in the State").

Got any Irish/Northern Irish parents or grandparents, lex-man?

Ahh yeah.

You can still do it by living in Northern Ireland, but you will need to marry somebody who holds Irish citizenship. Three years married and 1 year anywhere on the island of Ireland will do it.

Nope, sadly not.

EDIT: I think I might try applying for work in Denmark.

Spot-on, KK. Social media quoting is pretty unreliable as... well, I can stop there because you’ve already pin pointed it. Some folk are looking to find (bits of) quotes that tally with their own thinking.

Interesting that the Leavers are outrage by that misinformation, but have been so quiet on all the other misinformation.....

I have always taken an approach of being cautious about social media comments, Moggy - regardless of the message being shared. Mainly due to tweets and the like often being pushed out there with very little thought behind them; they can be knee-jerk reactions which are then seen by some as gospel.

I just find it interesting that Leavers are outraged by a comedy writer (who most people have never heard of) cutting down a quote from an ex politician. While at the same time those same people are absolute silent on the current Foreign Secretary driving around the country on a bus with a massive lie written on it.

That Tweet means nothing, it’s from a comedian and is about a bloke who spends his time riding around on the railways. To be outrage by that while also ignoring all the whopping lies is bizarre.
