My thought has always been that it was a team effort. Britain was an important component of the fight against the Nazis, but over the last 70 years that seems to have morphed into “UK saved everyone!”, with little acknowledgement of the other nations.

Russia was obviously the biggest factor, the manpower they could throw at Germany was astonishing and their winter also definitely helped.

Alone against Germany though? The Germans started well in the war, with no distractions to the west, who knows?

Without Britain holding out, America wouldn’t have gotten involved in Europe, or at least wouldn’t have had a convenient place near France to build up their numbers.

Then there are the Commonwealth countries, I doubt any of them would have gotten involved and they are horribly forgotten when the war is discussed.

Britain might have managed a stalemate with Germany if America didn’t get involved, but there’s no way the war could have been won without America. And a stalemate in the 40s probably wouldn’t have lasted into the 50s and 60s.

So the simple answer is “Russia”, the complex answer is “everyone” and the true answer is “Hitler was a daft twat that should have avoided Russia the dumb banana split”.

Yup, Germany also buggered up the invasion of Russia quite badly. There were loads of people who hated the communist regime and would have happily helped the Nazi's but they decided to enslave them instead which was a poor use of valuable human resources. They didn't have to send troops into Stalingrad they could have just cut off supplies to the city. Also they vacillated between attacking Moscow and the industrial heart of Russia had they just gone straight for Moscow they might have been able to take out the Russian leadership and have a fairly good chance of taking out Russia.

As the BBC broadcast Enoch Powell’s speech in full, I noticed “rivers of love” was trending on Twitter and so posted a pic of my mum and son laughing together.

I got this reply from some random twat.

Enoch was right. You have created a child who is rootless and without identity and in essence, you have fulfilled the Kalergi plan. There is a certain (((class))) of people who want the whole of Europe to look like your soon so as to make them a classless slave race.

I know banana splits like this were around before Brexit but strawberry floating hell they are fully emboldened now.

I seem to remember a saying that went something like:

World War II was won with British Intelligence, American munitions and Russian blood

There is only one reason to be grateful for Enoch Powell. From M J Hibbett's "If you're too turned on":

Oh Enoch Powell, Enoch Powell
Did you think you'd be remembered
As the face that let a thousand nights go on five minutes more?
Oh Enoch Powell, Enoch Powell
You are the loch-keeper of love, there is a river that you're holding back but it's not made of blood

I went with Don’t Know as I thought it was a stupid question anyway; it was a team effort and you’re then talking in hypotheticals if you start cherry picking the removal of certain countries.

Possibly Brexit related, Vauxhall are in deep doodoo

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/20 ... es-plunge/

Overall new car sales were down 5% last year, Vauxhall were down 22% and have lost their 2nd place sales spot to VW, who grew 2%
