Neuberger says the government generally has a prerogative power to change treaties.

But it cannot do that if it will affect people’s rights.

He summarises the claimants’ case, and the government’s response.

Today, by a majority of 8 to 3, the supreme court has ruled that the government cannot trigger article 50 without an act of parliament.

In other news - devolved powers do not have to be consulted....making Article 50 much more likely to be triggered

The government seemed to be suggesting they expected 7-4 against them - so this is worse than they thought

I think the expectations were in part driven by how the case went - so I wouldn't say that.

They certainly spent all that money on something they could lose.

Join me in a communal, hearty laugh.

I mean about the ruling, not Northern Island.

It's nice to see that the Daily Mail are taking this ruling well.

Aww precious snowflakes don't like democracy so much any more. It's still going to happen so I don't know why they're being such banana splits about it, apart from the fact that they are banana splits of course.

I for one am delighted that our unelected leader isn't going to be able to carry out Brexit without parliamentary approval. I can't believe it was even up for discussion.

They want a democratically accountable BRITISH parliament that is accountable to BRITISH law and the BRITISH people.

Except when it doesn't suit them of course. ;)

I wonder how the Leave supporters on the BBC comments are taking the news?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-38720320

11 traitors disguised as Supreme Court Judges.

The Judiciary , Media, Lords and Civil Service is infested with Establishmnet goons.

Drain the swamp and reinstate the Gate!

And the new name for Remainers is now Rewhiners..

How can you tell if a plane full of Remain Campaigners lands at Heathrow? When the engines switch off, the whining doesn't stop...

By the way, Rewhiners, Remoaners whatever word fits your sad gripes, you still lost, we are leaving, so whinge whine, try to usurp democracy all you like... "WE ARE LEAVING" (Aliens Quote)

This is the most disgusting verdict.

Parliament Voted to give us a referendum.

They agreed to be bound by its outcome.

They accepted legally a Leave Vote was to change UK Law.

Therefore MPs had their say, and said people decide.

Gina Miller, no words rich, arrogant I hope its a lonely victory. UK People will have long Memories...

ReWhiners are antidemocratic simples!

We've had referendum, the purest form of democracy. 1 person, 1 vote.

Shameless Gina Miller & her monied cronies have used their wealth to undermine the vote through courts, sorry I mean on points of law, so the whole process is now opened to politicians who ' won't block the public vote BUT ...' and continue with their tinkering.

Cue lobbyists & Tony Blair with his £10,000,000 war chest.

I expected this perverse Judgment.

Some Judges received their Peerages from Mr Blair.
Mrs Blair is embedded in the Judiciary.

Some of the Judges have worked in EU ... In the Courts.

I'm surprised that it was 8 v 3
If only 3 Judges had voted the other way Brexit would be happening.

In reverse the Snowflakes would be rioting and torching Limos ...

We don't live in a DEMOCRACY

Presumably Britain is better than where Gina Miller & Deir Dos Santos originally came from, otherwise they wouldn't stay here. It is therefore, unfortunate that people like these want to abuse the hospitality of British people and dictate the course of their adopted country.

Headline should read "Sikh born in Guyana and Spaniard block the democratic vote of the British people".

Gina Singh and Deir Santos aren't even British yet have the arrogance to try and stop the will of the British people, what a disgrace.

Brexit will still go a head, so it was just a big waste of money.

Gina Millar - you are not attacking the Government, you are attacking democracy of the people.

And so are these Judges.

It is a total and utter outrage. Brexit will now be watered down and democracy denied.

I thought we lived in a democracy where we elected a Government to do our will. Personally I think it is a horrendous mistake to let one woman who isn't British to go against the elected Government ! I believe in the rule of law but I do believe this judgement is extremely biased and proves the Normans and their Lords still rule Britain and not the majority English ! This is a travesty of justice.
