Don't know why they insisted on the farce of running with the claim for as long as they have.

Bet immigration now goes UP.

I think it will definitely go up and also a big increase in people from Asia, the Middle East and Africa which is not what millions of Brexit voters wanted. I think the government think that they voted out because they don't want Eastern Europeans moving here but they voted out because they were told that they could get better controls of their borders to stop people from the Middle East and certain African countries coming here. That's what they don't want. They also aren't that fond of Romanians. But few are actually bothered by polish people etc

Immigration from India and China will absolutely go up. It'll almost certainly be a condition of any trade deal with them.
India in particular have been wanting easier immigration for their citizens to the UK for years.

While I can see why Indian students may want to flock here for our great universities I'm unsure why else they would want to come here?
Are they coming here because we have lots of Indian takeaways a bit like UK tourists choosing to go to a destination and only drink in a Linekers bar?

Immigration will continue to be the hot topic in the years to come, either amongst UKIP or another fringe party. UKIP were a positive in that they basically replaced the BNP. The EDL never got as much traction.

Voters in the North and in the seaside towns are going to be livid. They'll be poorer and immigration will be up. Not a good combination. East Asia won't be a problem I don't think. Un-PC language yes, but I've never got the sense of any ill feeling amongst Chinese/Japanese looking people in this country. It'll be Africa and other Commonwealth countries, I guarantee it.

The immigration argument for Leave basically makes no sense at all unless you really hate European immigrants (otherwise known as a racist), immigration will always continue whether it's from Europe, Nigeria, India or the US.

Yeah in general there is very little issue towards East Asia. The problem for a lot of people is the Muslim world. That's what the issue is.

Indeed. Millions of people believed that in order to stop millions of Muslims coming to this country we had to leave the EU as they were told that they were all coming into the EU, gaining citizenship in Germany and then they could all come over here. The problem is realistically I think if EU immigration drops then it will increase from these parts of the world. Which goes against what people thought they were voting for.

Yeah, like your average knuckle dragging racist knows the difference between an Indian and a Muslim.

Peoples problem is the same as it has ever been. The fear of people different from themselves. The lies of hatemongers stirring up the uneducated.

They may be idiots but there's millions of them. A big proportion do know the difference though between a Hindu or a Muslim. There's a lot of poorly educated or just not very bright people who don't, but there's also a lot of intelligent people who do know what a Muslim is and still don't think they fit in our society.

I always got the feeling from comments pages, Facebook, anecdotally, etc that leavers had a blanket hated of immigration as a whole because "our infrastructure can't cope and they're taking our jobs".

I thought the UK voted out for sovereignty?

Or was it because of cheap labour from Polish/Bulgarian/Romanian immigrants?

Or was it for £350million a week?

Now it's because of Muslims from Africa/Asia?

"Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union?" seems to have a lot of different answers.

There's the infrastructure one I've heard a lot, which is correct in some ways. But the cause it's our own government for not increasing infrastructure budgets in line with the populace. After all immigration is a net comtributor so we now have more tax money than ever... yay! And no need to freeze or cut any services

The other one I heard a lot was how it was unfair the eU got the lions share of immigration numbers... so these people will be overjoyed that their Indian and Chinese friends can come here more easily now :slol:

I've spoken to a lot of people now in the past year and Islam thing is by far the main thing that comes up.

What % of the population even identify as Muslim? Isn't it like 2% or something? I'd be more worried about the various followings of Christ, especially as it influences government and our laws :fp:

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/apr/02/spain-drops-plan-to-impose-veto-if-scotland-tries-to-join-eu

Spain has said it would not veto an attempt by an independent Scotland to join the EU, in a boost to Nicola Sturgeon’s campaign for a second independence referendum and the clearest sign yet that Brexit has softened Madrid’s longstanding opposition.

Alfonso Dastis, the Spanish foreign minister, made it clear that the government would not block an independent Scotland’s EU hopes, although he stressed that Madrid would not welcome the disintegration of the UK.

Didn't take them long to change their tune.

It's believed to be 3 million now. You guys are burying your heads in the sand if you don't realise the widespread hatred that is forming towards people of Muslim religion. All you have to do is read any DM article, read the comments and see the thousands of comments that are liked into the tens of thousands. A lot of this hatred and worry I think has been formed on the back of media like the DM and Express. Then you've got Independent news sites that are shared over platforms like Facebook. They wanted out of EU to take back control of our borders because they were told this was the only way of stopping people from those cultures coming here.
