Just in the last week alone Keir Starmer, Carwyn Jones, John McDonnell and Diane Abbott have all indicated they either want to stay in the Single Market, or 'keep their options open'. And then there's the Customs Union, which is another thing they're now "having a debate" over.

Nobody has a clue what they want, it changes almost daily. You could stick Labour in power tomorrow and they'd be having roughly the same arguments as the Tories.

Downing Street has sought to put an end to Cabinet squabbling over Brexit by making clear that freedom of movement will end in March 2019.

Theresa May's official spokesman confirmed EU rules allowing Europeans to travel freely across UK borders would end on the day of Brexit, despite confusing signals coming from other Cabinet ministers.

He indicated further details of exactly how the UK will manage immigration would be published in due course, but said it would be "wrong to suggest" freedom of movement would continue unchanged.

t comes amid reports of deepening Cabinet splits over post-Brexit immigration, with one group of ministers led by Chancellor Philip Hammond arguing for a system close to the current one and another wanting tougher controls.

Speaking on Monday, Ms May's spokesman said: "Free movement will end in March 2019. We've published proposals on citizens' rights. Last week the Home Secretary said there would be a registration system for EU nationals arriving post-March 2019.

"Other elements of the post-Brexit immigration system will be brought forward in due course.

"It would be wrong to speculate on what these might look like or to suggest that free movement will continue as it is now."

This is going to u-turned. I'm calling it. They need a transitional period. It's the only way this gooseberry fool show will work without crippling everything.

Why is this still happening when it's obvious to everyone it's going to be a total clusterfuck that cripples the country?

At this point, the only reason it will keep going is that they don't want to look silly by admitting they were wrong.

Because it not. There's still a core of right wing (and to be fair some "left" wing) that are cheering it. Finally showing the establishment what's what and/or we don't want them funny foreigners here taking our jobes.

It's going to go ahead because of the exact same reason the referendum was called. The PM is scared of these groups.

It's the same reason as why we're going to get No deal. They just know that a deal would be politically unpalatable for "some" of the electorate - and therefore seem happier with no deal to pander to those elements, and hope the rest will be fobbed off with "EU's fault. Not ours! TAKE BACK CONTROL"

And as a result, now the country is as divided as the Tory party that spawned this, as well as the United Kingdom in general.

But let's all band together and make a success of it. Or something.

Because they see that all the down turn and all the hell millions will face is worth it to "take back control

No matter how gooseberry fool for some it gets it is just the price we pay, what is especially gooseberry fool is many that day that aren't going to be as hurt as the worst off so they are pretty much cool with letting people starve to "show den EU bastards and get rid of the foriners"

Because what you're effectively asking is "Why won't people who voted irrationally, accept a rational arguement"

It ain't going to happen. Nebulous arguments about "Sovereignty", "Take back control" and "Bendy Bannanas" win through

I think it's that some people have an issue with admitting they might actually be wrong. Which is terrible character trait to have, because everyone is wrong at some point.

Vocal leave voters are a very strange breed. They somehow find ways to defend the indefensible. See Jacob Rees Mogg. See the 350 million to the NHS bus slogan. See Sterling taking a nosedive. So many examples.

We want stronger borders!

But not if it causes queues at borders.

Typically the Express and Mail are implying that this is aimed at UK passport holders, ignoring that it applies to any country not in the Schengen area, which includes Ireland and the rest of the world.

This is not the first time you have posted in this manner. I too do not understand why people would think Brexit is a good idea however Any further posting like this will result in a 1 month ban from this thread.

At the risk of sounding condescending (and I'm really not being), I'd be strawberry floating terrified if I was facing Brexit coming down the line. It's an absolute gooseberry fool show and I hope your politicians pull their head out of their arses and either have a second referendum or try somehow to achieve a 'soft' Brexit.

Yep.

But I don't think it will be stopped or that we'll have a second referendum. The right wing media (which is pretty much all the media) still want it. The top Tories want it. The DUP want it. The leader of the opposition wants it.

It's going to be massively shitty, but it's going to happen.
