It isn't a lie though. We pay £350m a week before the rebate, as I recall, correct me if I am wrong. So what Boris has said here is that if we leave the EU then we control that whole £350m.
The lie would be saying the EU costs £350m a week (That is not the "cost") and that could be spent on the NHS. That was what was plastered on the bus and that simply wasn't true.
But if you think putting the real cost of £170m a week out there would have changed things then I think you are overly optimistic. Most people, leave voters, certainly working class ones, won't see any valuable difference as they will say £170m is still too much.
The whole issue of the cost of the EU in weekly terms is a complete misnomer. It is an irrelevant figure with too many variables.
