As we both know lucien, the referendum played upon fears of other migrants entering the EU. It quite obviously would have made some difference.

Rocsteady couldn't be more wrong. Farage is standing in front of a poster showing FRENCH people queuing up to get into the UK.

This talk of preserving our culture and heritage makes me nervous, since it is a bit of a dogwhistle. "Protecting our culture and heritage" has been a slogan of many hard-right and fascist parties.
However, it's also true that a harder line on immigration by the EU would've swung at least 2% of the vote and kept us in the EU.

Culture is supposed to change and adapt.
British culture is made up more or less entirely of a mishmash of cultures from all the societies that have literally invaded us over the past 2000 years.

It’s exactly what it is. With Brexit being mostly about immigration/xenophobia and the far right doing well in France, Germany, Austria (and in Eastern Europe), the EU is obviously getting worried about the rise in nationalism.

I don’t agree with pandering to the racists, but I can see why they are making those noises.

It’s about time us Anglo-Saxons stuck up for ourselves against people wanting to move here! Anglo-Saxons are the indigenous people in Britain after all, right?

Following Brexit, Canvey Island is the latest area of the UK to want independence.

I don't know.

That article isn't really about independence for Canvey Island, they just want to take back control of their own affairs ( ;) ).

Just checked the local council website and all but two councilors are members of the Canvey Independence Party.

As they only want to breakaway from Castlepoint council I doubt they'll be joining the EU any time soon. I live right near them as well in Southend where are you based?

They're also one of the highest 'leave' areas in the country, so I don't think they want to leave the UK.

Edit: beaten. I knew I shouldn't have youtubed that Stewart Lee "David Nuttals of the UKIPs" sketch.
