A decent opposition politician would be able to spin any sort of decrease in tourists from the UK, no matter how negligible, as a direct result of the Governments greedy decision to impose visas, leading to job losses, blah de blah blah.

It might be amusing to think of Brexit ending up with all those who voted for it being "punished" for their actions but any punishment will probably be down to actions of the UK government not foreign politicians.

Not that it matters to you of course seeing as you are Irish now. :toot:

Well my original post was clearly a joke, KK took it rather seriously and so I posted some reasonable guesses as to how my jokey scenario could actually happen.

I don’t think it is actually that crazy that the Spanish government after Brexit might try and stoke up some anti-British feelings over Gibraltar and might see British tourists as an easy cash grab. Whip the population into a frenzy over the British “colonising” Gibraltar, tell the population how much it is costing Spain to process all these non-EU foreign tourists that are clogging up the airports and then suggest a €5-€20 fee on British tourists to help with the costs.

Easy.

Pssshh. Reading all of that makes me kind of panic.
I got in the UK last year to live with Seven, and I've been doing few in and outs to get my personal stuff from Paris.
For about 9 months I pretty much checked the gov website every month to get the same " it's fine your rights are there you're going to stay "
But now I have no idea of what i should do to begin with.
I'm still waiting for my national insurance number papers to come home :(

I think you will be fine. Theresa May is saying that she is not going to guarantee the right to stay for people that arrive during or after the transition period. As you are already here, there should be no risk of not being able to stay.

Obviously at the moment it is impossible to guarantee it, but I would imagine any potential deal with the EU will have clauses to protect EU citizens in the UK (and UK citizens in Europe!).

She's trying to pander to the rabbid dogs who've been incised by the recent "she's being too soft/we'll be a vassel state" stuff and the traitorous civil servants for using evidence and facts.

It's short termism as she knows the EU will slap her down - but she's pandering to the mob.

I think the civil servants have it coming. Who'd want to work for the government.

For me, getting away from the EU Commission, Parliament etc is a good thing; I'm happy to see some papers going against the House of Lords now. I suspected that could be one of the cosequences of Brexit - people would compare the House of Lords to the Commission, then voters would go after the HoL.

I think you suspected wrong.

Thing is its completely pointless, because the House Of Lords is going to stay because all their friends are peers in it.

The Mail is focusing on it, but then the Mail is still focusing on Diana.

Imaging voting to economically and socially hurt the country based on a forlorn hope that the right wing, establishment supporting newspapers would then (eventually) manage to turn people against the House of Lords.

The House Of Lords 3 part documentary that aired on BBC2 last year was fascinating. Completely at odds with what the Daily Mail etc paint it as being.

Everybody who voted remain wanted to exploit the working class so that they could keep ltheir package holidays and gap year bar work.

We can all come up with ridiculous theories.

Yeah but some of them are backed up by reality

Something, to be fair, most leavers have no idea of.

I think by now it’s been 2 Years. If there was a leave voter or wasn’t ignorant, delusional and/or racist they might have made themselves known

EU worker's rights legislation protects the working class in this country (from the Tories...).

What I love with Leave voters is the utter lies and garbage they accept, but woe betide anyone that ever dares exaggerate for comic effect.

No Lucien didn’t say exactly what I said. My post was a spoof exaggerated parody of what he wrote.

Apologies if you thought I was being 100% serious.

Tomorrow’s Telegraph:

Ministers are drawing up plans for a post-Brexit immigration policy which would see just 40,000 fewer EU migrants a year come to UK, a leaked impact assessment suggests.

The Telegraph can disclose the economic analysis, drawn up with the support of Amber Rudd, the Home Secretary, suggests that EU workers will be given "preferential treatment” if Britain secures a free-trade deal.

Under a flexible migration scenario EU workers would have to earn £20,500 to come to the UK.
