Hi dudes, we all got an eye test today, I got pretty close to 20/20 vision as well as peripherals and colour blindness malarky. I did excellently at depth perception and I reckon gaming was the reason for that.

I remember for years and years now gaming and using PC's will chronically effect peoples eyesight, is it just bollocks? I mean. I've been gaming for about 30 years AND I'm a draftsman so I'm looking at screens and have been most of my life intently. Is it just a red herring or have some of you have your eyesight deteriorate and do you think it was to do with gaming/PC's?

I've never even needed an eye test

I have astigmatism, which means my eyes aren't perfect spheres. No amount of televising is going to affect that.

What watching monitors and televisions all day will do is cause eye strain from focusing too closely for too long. You can relieve that by looking at distant objects, giving your eyes a rest once in a while.

Eyes are strawberry floated with keratoconus.
One gets to sub 20:20 with a rigid lens (and might degenerate further)
One can no longer be helped by lenes, so waiting for a craft (which should get acceptable vision. Right now it's blurred, distracting mess dragging down overall vision)

Don't blame TV/PC though

Wear contacts daily. GF thinks I should have laser eye surgery like she did but the amount she complains about her eyes irritating her it has put me off.

Get Laser Eye Surgery, its awesome *eyes bleeding*

From discussions with colleagues the research suggests blue light from excessive screen use does have a deleterious effect on eye health (and sleeping patterns etc). If nothing else, you don't blink as much reading a screen as you do reading paper, which isn't very good for the ocular surface. I haven't actually read any of these studies myself as it's not really my area, but it's fairly well described and does seem to be "a thing."

I'm pretty sure the whole square eyes fable is nonsense though. Playing games and watching TV can be quite useful when children are being patched for a lazy eye, because if you sit them in front of a console they will actually do something with their eyes instead of just vegging out.

My night vision is terrible, have blind spots in both eyes and will be completely blind hopefully in my 60s, but potentially before. No treatment or cure. Hopefully some gene therapy in my lifetime to keep a fragment of vision. Do I win the thread?

Yep. I thought I'd win with my worries (and tbh they can keep grafting, but takes a 6 months wait list and 6 months to settle, so might stave off proper blindness)

Yeah but yours sound worse. Sorry buddy. Mine should be fixable, if needing permenant upkeep/repair. Does get me down loads though.

Makes driving at night awful - so debilitating to the working(ish) eye. It's easier to drive with the right eye closed

I have eyes.

My right eye is very slowly getting worse, but I'm not at the point where I need glasses yet.

I'm really short sighted with astigmatism. It's not worth me having laser surgery. I've been for consultations but each time was told I'd still have to wear glasses and my sight would just deteriorate again. My eyes are that bad I'm at risk of my retina detaching. If I get the symptoms for that I've been told to go straight to A&E rather than the opticians or GP. I'm also tested regularly for glaucoma.

I usually check cdkeys first. I know some people don't like them but I've never had any issues.
