I hope Mercedes and Ferrari end up being pretty evenly matched this year. Maybe it was just the circuit but i would say Ferrari looked too good for Mercedes today. If it carries on that way then it wont be a straight fight and Vettel will win the championship, ignoring malfunctions and crashes etc.. I expect Hamilton to get more Poles though.

Great result, hopefully this means we'll have a proper duel throughout the year.

Actual racing was shite though.

I'm already down beaten by it, i don't think there will be any dueling. Races will be won in the pits, or due to crashes and mechanical malfunctions.

I really don't remember Tyre wear being as much of a problem in the past as it seems to be nowadays.

Decent outcome. I don't agree that Ferrari are far and away as Raikkonen was an ineffective 4th to Bottas. You would have expected him to be all over him too if the Ferrari was the better car.

What is more concerning for us as viewers is that if Ham hadn't whined about his tyres and held out longer on the tyres like the rest of the field then he would have held station. I don't recall any other winners/losers in pitting, nor any overtakes on track that werent early doors or tied to mechanical issues. The race suffered from latter half stagnation but at least in previous seasons it came together with the playing out of differing tyre strategies.

Basically I think races will become snooze-fests.

Yeah, the lack of overtaking was worrying especially from Hamilton who's a strong overtaker. I wonder if it'll encourage drivers to pull off some more questionable moves like we saw Perez doing.

Is pretty hard to overtake in Melbourne though so let's hope it's dorm to that. :shifty:

Good result - pleased to see Vettel win - but dull again overall.

There is no pleasing most F1 'fans' though is there? Introduce slower cars, DRS, and fast degrading tyres in order to improve overtaking and people complain that it's 'gimmicky'; improve the tyres, and increase the speed and the same people complain that the inevitable reduction in overtaking is boring.

I enjoyed today's race, I think it bodes well for the season.

I read an interesting article about how front wings are the cause of F1's problems, which argued that you could grearly improve the racing by limiting front wings and forcing teams to find aero through the floor and rear wings only. I'd be happy to see F1 try it but I bet a whole ton of fans will complain endlessly. Probably because it's not exactly like their favourite season from 10 to 20 years ago.

I havent read back through the thread because I dont want race spoilers (just watching highlights now) - but is there a legal way to watch F1 online yet?

Failing that, is there a convenient and decent quality way to watch online?

Free legal, not that I know of. Not free legal NowTV works, I use that to watch it and by week passes for £9.99 for each race.

That is for a week thing, so if you only want the race you can get a day pass for £6.99.

Could be an interesting race as they haven't had any practice yet due to rain and stuff.
