Looked like Vettel cut across StrLOL's front wheel with his rear, which seems to be what happened in the last race at the start. Maybe they forget the rears are so much bigger and wider than last year.
We bother because every once in a billion years there is an actual decent race. This was gooseberry fool as usual, Vettel coming from all the way back is impressive until you realise he had by far the quickest car and there were two bloody great DRS straights so he could just breeze past everyone. It was gooseberry fool. Just because I like f2 it doesn't mean I have to blindly love everything like a fanboy.
I'm glad you agree. You've neatly illustrated my point too, thanks. Today's race was not a classic but neither was it the dullest race in F1 history, it was a pretty typical F1 race, the type that has occured hundreds of times since long before 1997, as you obviously know. It was your standard 1-0 or 1-1 in football and if you don't enjoy watching them then why bother. I stopped watching a lot of football because I realised I didn't enjoy the 1-0s enough to justify the occasional thriller.

But this is always the case with every driver in a decent car that starts from the back, they are going to end up with fairly decent points because they have a much faster car than the 15 people in front of them. For me, starting at the back when you have a decent car isn't much of a penalty. Nice for fans of the driver "awesome drive by X" but just makes it part of the F1 circus.
I think the recent regulation changes have soured a lot of fans, understandably so too. DRS has quickly cheapened overtaking as on some circuits the driver in front is a sitting duck with no reasonable way to defend. The cars seem easier to drive than past seasons which means drivers make less mistakes, cornering speeds have increased which makes it harder to follow etc. The appeal of the cars has taken a hit over the last few seasons with the horrid engine sounds and the stepped noses we seem to have only just gotten away from.
I think it's good to be a hardcore fan of the sport and pushing for real change (which thankfully we seem to be getting) and acknowledging that F1 has a lot of issues that need to be resolved. Malaysia wasn't a terrible race but it wasn't worth watching, and that alone is a serious issue in 2017 with so much stuff competing for attention.
As I say, Malaysia was a typical F1 race, the like of which we have seen hundreds of times across multiple technical eras. The sport has changed in the last 25 years but many of the issues are recurring, e.g. F1 has had a processionary element for as long as I've been watching (1993), compounded by unequal car performance.
Point taken that some strange choices have been made which have put people off, I agree that F1 certainly has issues that need to be resolved but saying 'that was dull', 'I fell asleep', 'that was gooseberry fool' after every race hardly constitutes 'pushing for real change', it's just really boring.
What irritates me is that people used to complain endlessly about the lack of overtaking in the late 90s and early 2000s but when efforts have been made to change that, i.e. aerodynamics to reduce turbulent air flow and DRS, you then get endless complaints about the cars being ugly, overtaking being too easy, the cars being too slow and therefore not the pinnacle of motorsport, etc. The grass always seems to be greener, whereas I prefer to appreciate the good things whilst accepting that there are still problems.
You won't hear me complaining about overtaking being too easy. That year where the tyres fell to bits after 10 laps and we had 8 different winners in 8 races was probbaly my favourite year ever for racing. All the way up and down the field there was wheel to wheel stuff for most of the year, it was strawberry floating brilliant.
