Good sky article on Alonso and Hamilton in Hungary 2007. I forgot what a mental year that was.

I haven't been following this halo thing too much, but I must be missing something here, because as well as looking awful, it:

- still leaves the driver's head exposed
- is right in the line of sight of the driver
- has resulted in an increase in the time expected for drivers to escape a burning vehicle; i.e., it makes it more difficult for drivers to get out of the car

Why are the FIA so keen on this? It can't just be down to the increased advertising space.

The main benefit of the Halo is it's ability to block large pieces of debris such as a tyre. Indeed, that is the only advantage it has over the far better looking Shield or Aeroscreen concepts. It is worrying that they've increased the minimum safe evacuation time for this to be introduced as we've had far more occasions with flipped cars and fires than tyres flying at a driver's face.

I just hope that when painted and with the added aero fairings they will look better than the current black flipflop.

I think your probably right but I have a feeling F1 with petrol engines will still be around for a long time as the sound of them is a big part of the attraction.
If we get to a point where electric cars are just running rings round petrol engines then maybe petrol will die but until then there'll still be enough people wanting to watch F1 to keep it viable.

Yeah that was awesome. One of the best races I've seen in a while.

Di Resta the supersub blocked Kimi:

I think Merc were naive to switch Bottas and Hamilton back. Ferrari will not hesitate to switch their drivers to maximise their chances of the WDC and Hamilton could have dropped a vital point or two there.

Everything about that race was rubbish. In what could have been a great fight with Vettel struggling and Raikonen and Hamilton looking much quicker, on a different track there could have been a fascinating race. Instead we got a procession with not even a hint of danger.

Have to say I agree on Mercedes. In a tight title fight, why on earth would you give up 3 points when clearly Hamilton had shown he was far quicker today as well.

Difference is Bottas is still in the title fight. Bottas would not have let Hamilton through if he knew Lewis wasn't going to give it back.

Haha!

On Ham giving 4th back, right decision. Yes, you can argue he should have taken the 3 pts, but next time when he asks to be let through, Valteri will trust him to keep his word, and that will be a track where overtaking is possible and Hamilton will probably be able to get by and gain more than 3pts. Otherwise Bottas will tell Lewis to suck his balls.
