Alonso. I loved that he toppled Schumi, hated him for Spygate, Crashgate and general Ferrari driver, but loved him again as he geared up for McLaren Honda to now.

Will be sad to lose him as in the same machine he'd smash Vettel (think Hamilton would edge it. It'd be close but Alonso would prob get in his head)

It's just a shame that Alonso pretty much wasted the last 4 years stuck in some truly godawful cars.

Would have loved to have seen what he could have done alongside Hamilton in a Merc.

I wonder who will be alongside him, I'm guessing Vandoorne so they have a constant in terms of one driver. Good signing mind although I wonder if he's rated as highly now as he was before, Hulkenberg has had the upper hand on him so far this year.

Not chipped in on Alonso leaving mind, reckon he'll be heading to Indycar for a season or two now to give him a good chance of winning the Indy500. Saying that he's still going to be in the WEC till at least June 2019.

I'd probably follow IndyCar or Formula E if Alonso went to either. It'd be interesting to see how he went over current F1.

Odd to say when we've have two teams duking it out between 4 time champions. But 6 of 8 of those were won under domination so maybe reinforces the point.

Also RIP IN PIECE Carlos' career. Here's to 3 gooseberry fool years at McLaren before going off to race in formula e.

Honda would welcome Alonso in IndyCar, won't rule out McLaren supply

Honda says it would welcome Fernando Alonso to IndyCar for 2019, and has not ruled out an engine supply for McLaren should the Formula 1 team join the series.

Speculation had suggested McLaren's ill-fated stint with Honda engines in F1 had damaged the possibility of the team linking up with the manufacturer in IndyCar, due to Alonso's frequent outbursts over the Japanese company's performance.

Autosport understands McLaren is leaning towards a Chevrolet engine supply as it continues to work on a 2019 entry, after previously using Honda engines when Alonso competed in an Andretti-run car under the McLaren banner at last year's Indianapolis 500.

Art St Cyr, president of Honda Performance Developments, said: "Fernando Alonso is one of the premier racing drivers of this generation, and we very much enjoyed working with him at the 2017 Indianapolis 500.

Trouble was, without a firm offer from Red Bull, there probably wasn't anywhere else he could go.

Don’t blame him.

He’d better off somewhere else where he can just enjoy racing again. I bet he will go to Indy Car.

Bit of a kick in the teeth for Carlos, although Gasly certainly has had the upper hand over Hartley this year and Carlos has been second to Hulkenberg a lot of the time so you can kind of see why, although part of it is probably to keep Max happy.

Looks like Force India have lost all their constructors points.

Yeah it's a shame but if it keeps them going then I guess it was their best option. I really hope that name is just for the rest of this year as its not exactly great in my opinion.

No idea what to make of all the rubbish being thrown around by Alonso/Horner/Marko.

On the one hand you'd believe Alonso, he's leaving so what does he have to lose? Although the multiple years he's apparently been offered the Red Bull drive don't make sense to me. 2007? Fair enough, new team looking for an established driver alongside their Red Bull young driver program choice. 2009? Again kind of realistic but less likely considering how well Vettel and Webber did. 2011 and 2013? I think he'd have snapped their hand off if he'd been offered it in those years, especially 2011 where Ferrari weren't great and Red Bull were on form.

On the other I'd side with Horner and Marko, they might have had preliminary talks but outside of 2007 (that seems to be known of) he's not actually been offered a contract with them.

In other news anyone got F1 2018? I think this is only the second time I've not been there at launch (other being 2014) mainly because the PS4 very rarely gets loaded up these days as I'm normally on my Switch when I get some time to spend on games.
