Also, seeing as Monza as a whole could have been deemed as too fast, the overall layout could well have ended up like this...

They did it to Hockenheim (and to a lesser extent Silverstone), which is why i'm amazed Monza is still in such good condition.

Fonso admitted he was very close to quit F1 last year but he decided not to.

Give him a quick car then!

The changes made to Silverstone to keep Bernie happy ruined Silverstone for me the new part feels totally out of place compared to the rest of the track the old Bridge layout is best configuration for Silverstone.

I remember when Bridge Corner at Silverstone was taken flat out at 190mph before they installed the abbey chicane, it was absolutely mighty!

The chicane of course was installed after Pedro Lamy's crash in 1994, the thing is though, it wasn't the corner at fault, it was the FIA regs which caused teams to cut parts out of the bodywork (following the imola tragedies) which led to Lamy's rear wing breaking off at top speed.

Yep didnt Lamy hit the bridge flip over which he broke his legs and was out for most of the season following that crash again he was lucky to survive considering how flimsy the cars were in 1994.

Yeah before the chicane the speeds thru it were mental in 1993

I went to the BTCC night races back in 2000 and sat at Bridge corner watching the races was a great place to see them coming full pelt into the stadium section
and braking and overtaking each other.

That prost and senna video

God I miss the old layout. Used to love it in racing games when it got to that track, now I hate it because just as you're getting in to the lap, you have that shitty new bit to spoil the flow.

Lamy ended up in the pedestrian tunnel, when his team mate came by and parked up, he had to get out and try to find him.

I used to sit on the outside of Woodcote at the BTCC, i still remember the 1998 Silverstone season finale when Nigel Mansell competed. The crowd that day was massive, the biggest i'd ever seen for a touring car event. Rickard Rydell went on to take the title and i saw him celebrating in the paddock afterwards, then i headed to the Volvo garage where the mechanics were removing damaged bodywork from Gianni Morbidelli's car and they let me take a piece of it home with me.

Marin shares his view on the halo and the whole issue of safety and mentions the endless run offs and making it "too" safe
