Surprised about Kimi's pace so far, it's like the old Kimi is finally back.

Edit: Shame for Magnussen. Seem to get a lot of wheels not being attached properly here in Australia.

Jesus, and now Grosjean. What a disaster after such a promising start to the season.

This is turning into a proper bag of shite.

Race being defined by a loose wheel nut.

Nice to see Mercedes still struggle when following another car.

Everyone does. Verstappen can't pass Alonso for instance.

Indeed, but considering the Mercedes PU advantage I'm glad it really hurts their performance.

You have to wonder how that was even possible. Before the VSC Vettel was probably about 10s behind Hamilton in real terms and when he came out in front it was not even close. That's a ridiculous advantage under the VSC.

Ferrari got lucky, but Vettel didn't have much to lose by staying out for a longer 1st stint to see what might happen. Often it wouldn't lead to anything but it did today, just the way it goes sometimes. Mercedes still have the clear pace advantage though, unreal in qualifying and pulling away nicely in the race until the VSC and SC periods. Hopefully Ferrari can make strides to actually mount a challenge this season.

Gutted for Haas though, went from a promising result to heartbreak in a few laps, for all the advantages made in technology you can't beat a man with a stick being in charge of releasing the car from a pit stop.

There was nothing in today's race to suggest that the issues of the last few seasons have been solved. Minimal overtaking all through the race and very little in the way of attempted overtakes. I think Bottas on Vandoorne was the only change in the points places after the safety car went in.

Issues relating to the complex aero helping with the lack of overtaking probably won't get solved till 2021 at the earliest as this is when the new regulations should be coming in, they've just got to write some decent regulations that should help people follow closely and overtake if close/fast enough.

Obviously it couldn't turn out just like these last few seasons, can quickly close the gap but once you're within s couple of seconds it just makes everything so much harder.

Well that was gooseberry fool. Issues with a wheel nut of a third party basically settling the race on a flip of the coin.

Lots of overtaking down the field but none where it counts for the big positions.

You couldn't get a bigger contrast than this and the start of the Indycar season the other week. F1 still has major problems despite the gloss of new ownership. That was basically an hour an a half wasted watching a race decided by pure luck.

gooseberry fool race. Feel bad for Haas because that was probably going to be their best result of the season.
