Yeah but they dominated because they did something clever and no one else thought of something to come to their level, they didn't win because they threw 2 seasons to futher develop the engine to have a huge advantage when the rules came in preventing others from catching them up.

Well, actually the 2013 dominance was due to a change in tyre compounds following silverstone's multiple blowouts.

Either way, the other teams weren't blocker from catching up.

To be honest, i think the rot started to set in around 2011, as since then we've had an endless stream of domination, crap rules, ugly cars, ridiculous penalties, stupid decisions, rubbish TV coverage deals, and hideous circuits.

F1 was riding on a wave of goodwill following the 2008 Brazil finale, the giant killing antics of 2009, and the 5 way championship fight of 2010, but after that it just kept going downhill, the only positive change being the 2017 car designs which were genuinely great.

Been some good stuff in all the classes at Le Mans and it looks like Alonso, Buemi and Nakajima are going to take the win in the LMP1.

20 mins to go.

Managed to watch about half of it this year (most I've managed to watch before is about 18 hours), again been an exciting race throughout except for the win, which barring reliability was obviously going to go to Toyota, the LMP2 and GTE Pro class in particular were fantastic, thought the leading Porsche cars in GTE Pro looked great in their retro liveries.

Bit of a potential mouthful for a team name coming in from next year.

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Tag Heur Honda.

Yep, Red Bull running Honda PU's from 2019-2020 :)

Imagine if red bull win the championship with Honda, I think Alonso would go full active shooter in the MTC.

Ricciardo might be going to McLaren next year with the inevitable Alonso retirement :dread:

Leclerc is being lined up for Ferrari next year in place of Raikonnen.

Well Ricciardo wouldn't be a bad replacement for Alonso (who now he has won Le Mans I could definitely see making a move to Indycar), what McLaren has actually shown over the last few years (even 2014 when they had a Mercedes power unit) to make it an attractive move? Miles off Red Bull's pace despite having the same power unit in the back and don't seem to be making loads of progress.

I'd love to be proven wrong and see McLaren back winning races. It's been ages since they last won (Brazil 2012, believe last podium was Australia 2014?).

I'd be excited to see Leclerc alongside Vettel though, looks like a real talent.

Vettel nearly went down the wrong chicane on the main straight in FP1 today :slol: . The major problem with Ricard so many configurations hardly no elevation on the track and those eye sore lines someone will make a mistake and go down the wrong part of the track.

My eyes hurt looking at :dread: :?

F1 drivers ask FIA to remove Paul Ricard chicane

Formula 1 drivers asked the FIA to remove the chicane on Paul Ricard's back straight in order to improve racing at the French Grand Prix.
Several drivers used Friday's drivers' briefing to suggest the current layout would not make for great racing on Sunday.

Changes cannot be made this weekend because the circuit is homologated for F1 with the chicane, the FIA would need to run simulations of how safety aspects of Turn 10 would be affected by higher approach speeds and teams have brought cars set up for the original layout.

Toro Rosso's Brendon Hartley, who tested Porsche's LMP1 car at Ricard without the long straight, said he felt using the full back straight has "a bit more character, and probably history as well".

"I think a long straight line will potentially create more overtakes," he said when asked by Motorsport.com.

"I don't think it will happen for tomorrow, but I've tested and raced without the chicane.

"It makes things interesting because it's less downforce with the long straight line, Turn 10 becomes more of a corner, and so does the last sector with less downforce.

"Maybe it's a discussion point for next year. The good news is here there are plenty of options."

Sergio Perez said the drivers wanted to improve the show for fans.

"We asked Charlie [Whiting, FIA race director] about this, to improve the overtaking, to improve the show, and make it more interesting," said Perez.

"I think the best race we've had up to now this year has been in Baku, and all the tracks should be taking some direction from that.

GP2 CHASSIS GP2 CHASSIS

Congratulations McLaren for squandering the twilight years of Alonso and being so gooseberry fool that he's quitting for strawberry floating indycar at the end of the year.
