It’d be more annoying if in Britain we had to press “8” to speak English.

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had to press 1 to speak English. Who are these people ringing?

It is, vets aren’t underpaid so why would they need benefits? Fix the dogs problem and stop moaning!

Populist rhetoric is so weird. "Fund mental healthcare! SPEAK ENGLISH OR GO BACK TO YOUR OWN COUNTRY! Feed the homeless! KILL ALL FOREIGN PEOPLE! Medicine for the elderly! WHO HAS THE GUTS TO REPOST THIS?!?!?"

This is again the fault of the media. I get nationalism with sport because sport only works when people are divided into teams, and country borders work as well as any other I guess. But why is it that when The Oscars is on it's reported on over here as "here are the British successes this year". Or when there's a big plane crash it'll be 'two hundred dead, INCLUDING FIVE BRITONS'. Like they're trying to drill into us that British people are somehow more important human beings than anyone else.

I don't' think they'd managed to localise it more than just replacing the word America with the word Britain.

Thats more to give it an angle that will interest people, they do the same here if someone Irish gets nominated or caught up in a tragedy. Its more to do with the fact that people will pay more attention to news if they feel some kind of a connection to it.

Yeah, I get it, I just think news should be reported on as it is rather than to try to make people feel a certain way.

Sadly that will never happen, news is becoming more and more about clicks and ad revenue.

Attached to a news story about the physiological effects of fans screaming abuse/racism at footballers.

Poor little snowflakes, they are up there with the best earners and most privelaged sportsmen in the world

Try standing on the frontline of a battlefield being shot at !

It’s always about soldiers with these people.

The community you are a part of will be disproportionately affected by the deaths of people from within that community. That's arguably not so relevant at a national level, but if you scale down the example to a street or an office or a friend group for example then it makes a lot of sense. I don't think it's about trying to make British people appear more important.

Because soldiers are doing the wonderful job of blowing up those naughty Afghans who are coming over to steal our jobs and benefits.
