Fire Emblem DS (New Dark Dragon and the Sword of Light?)

It's out in Japan now, but there's no release date here yet.
Anyway, it's a remake of FE 1 and 3 (I think) in the same vein as previous FE titles, which were Japan only, so will give us all a chance to experience their greatness. It's also got online this time around, so that should provide some good games on here. It can be imported from America when it's out there, so I'm still hoping for a 2008 release.

As you've probably figured out, I'm a huge FE fan so can't wait for this.

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn (wii)

This is a fantastic sequel to the, similarly stunning, Path of Radiance, so I wouldn't recommend playing this before PoR, but, if you have played PoR, definitely get it.
It's £19.99 or 2 for £30 in gamestation.

However, I'd recommend people who haven't finished the previous games to play on easy, as it's harder than previous entries.

There isn't really going to be much to discuss until Nintendo decide to announce a western version of the DS game the day before it hits the shelves.

I'm more interested in what Intelligent Systems does with the next original Fire Emblem. I know IS have stated that they consider the franchise as a home-console experience, but I wonder if the sales of the DS game will change their minds. I believe the GBA games sold a lot better than the GC/Wii ones too. In Japan, at least.

Enjoying the Wii game, but Sacred Stones is my favourate of the series. It has the bonus of the tower levels that you can replay to level up your neglected characters. Appeals to the completest in me. DS version is 100% day 1 import purchase for me.

Finally got the youtube video to work (had it as a different region)

Why don't we get adverts like that?

Did you ever try Sealed Sword?

Also, it puts pressure on DD64 and St. Nick to buy the game (assuming they made the move to GRcade)

Oh I'm here and under pressure :P The 2 for £30 deal at GameStation you pointed out doesn't look to kindly on my wallet either ;) Ah well, we'll have to see how things turn out for me in the coming weeks, but I'll be sure to report back here as soon as I have acquired a Fire Emblem

Great.

(Alternatively, get two and sell one of them. Trades in for £16 cash or £22 exchange in CEX, so your wallet will be that much heavier.)

Now just Jazzem and St. Nick remain.

Two days before my birthday.

Now that I know it's coming out relatively soon I can go back to moaning about how I prefer FE on consoles.

Just saw the news of the DS release. I managed to get the original GBA titles so I'm hoping to play through those first. Advance Wars DS isn't helping the case though :P Never got round to getting FE on the Wii though :(

Great to hear it's coming out this year. Should make a nice Christmas present :D

Although I've heard of this bizarre game mechanic where you purposely kill off team members to gain new ones? I'm not sure of the details exactly but it doesn't half sound odd...

There's always those rubbish characters that you never use. Hopefully it's those ones you have to sacrifice.

I made a special effort to get Path of Radiance for my gameCube before they all disappeared forever. I'm glad I did. It's a great turn-based game, like they used to make, before developers started assuming nobody likes turn-based games any more - presumably because their focus groups told them nobody's got an attention span greater than that of a gnat these days.

Apparently.

And Radiant Dawn is as good an argument as I've ever seen to get a Wii.

I found it quite hard to get into Fire Emblem on the Wii. The difficulty was all over the place for the first few levels and I'd wasted my time upgrading a couple of crap characters. I'll get back to it and give it another go eventually.

I didn't really mind the early stages of Radiant Dawn when I was playing through them, but the game really picks up in the second part when you meet up with some old friends.

NOE PR:
8th October 2008 – Find a sacred sword and use it to save a kingdom as Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon heads to Nintendo DS! For the first time in the classic Fire Emblem RPG series, there is the option of multiplayer action over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, adding a whole new dimension of gameplay and strategic planning that can be shared with friends and fans of the series.

Using skill, tactical battle-planning and no small amount of magic, players must embark on a quest to destroy the resurrected dark dragon Medeus, who seeks to conquer the entire world. Charging into battle in Europe on 5th December, 2008, the game is based on Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, which was created in 1990 for the NES console but never released in Europe, despite becoming the most popular in the series in Japan. Now the remake of this NES classic has the popular weapon triangle system integrated for strategic enhancement.

One hundred years since Medeus was slain and the Kingdom Altea founded on the continent of Akaneia, Medeus is back, and it falls to exiled prince Marth to save the kingdom from ruination. Success for Marth and his comrades rests on finding his father’s sacred sword, Falchion, and the Fire Emblem. Only when these are united in Marth’s hands will he be able to confront the dark pontifex Gharnef, avenge the murder of his father and kidnapping of his sister, destroy Medeus once and for all and win back the kingdom of Altea.

Turn-based gameplay challenges the player’s strategic thinking, with the nature of the terrain, the strength of enemy forces and the positioning of your own units all needing careful consideration. The Nintendo DS’s Touch Screen enables quick placement of units, and the game boasts polished graphics that make the best use of the Nintendo DS system.

A wide range of characters, with unique powers and integrated storylines, adds depth to the game, which features a range of new side stories and several difficulty levels to suit newcomers and seasoned strategists. Using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, players can battle over the Internet or against one another in the same room, using their own characters – with their own special skills and experience. These battles can be enjoyed even more by using the Voice Chat feature during battle. Playing over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection also offers access to a special armoury where players can buy special items that allow them to gain a new class of character and also sell weapons to make money. Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection also enables players to loan their battle-seasoned units to other players in order to provide a boost to that player’s forces. Additional units can be uploaded to a server and also borrowed from the server or from a friend by exchanging friend codes.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon makes its way to Europe on 5th December 2008.

I'd say, unless you've completed all of the other FE games (English ones), go for easy with this.
Personally, I didn't find it too bad (that may be because I picked decent characters, though)

If you get the chance, I also highly recommend FE: Sealed Sword, the sequel to the original GBA game over here. There's a flawless translation (in game one), and it's sublime.
